Didn't know where else to post this

putting it in the sale forum seemed wrong, since it's not actually a sale....yet at least.

Just wanting to know a rough guestimate asking price for my car.

Year: 2000
Model: zx3
Mileage: 150K
Color: Silver

stock tail lights, exhaust tip, am/fm/cd, mach audio, trim on hatch painted silver rest is still black, new brakes on rear, new tires on front, rear tires still good (85% tread) stock alloys, rest is stock as far as I know. No visible rust on body (it is a Florida car after all) dark tint all around (20%? 10%? I don't know, it's dark.) Needs A/C recharged every now and then.

Currently revs while A/C is on but that's in the process of waiting to get fixed. Also waiting on new shocks and struts.

Car will be in New York in October, so expect the mileage to go up quite a bit from the trip.

Use www.kbb.com to get a general idea on what the car is worth. Even if you list all the mods you can ask what you want for it but the general population doesn't care what special items you have on the car. They just see it as a car and nothing else.

I bought it for $1500 with about 95K on it back in March.

Keeping the ford racing euro lights on it, now that I think of it, and just tossing the stock lights in with it. Hoping to maybe trade it in when I move for a newer black Focus (really hoping for a SVT but I haven't found any there yet for sale)

I'll be surprised if he gets $2000 never mind 3g's...Fair asking price IMO is $2200 but leave yourself a little breathing room regardless.

Welcome to Why Not's school of selling cars.

A) A car is worth exactly what you want to get for it

B) No matter what you want to get for it (within reason) you can always find some idiot who will pay that for it

C) Once you know what you want for the car, you price it $500 more than what you want for it because everyone will try to talk you down at least $500.

D) Avoid discussing anything about your car except expensive repairs you've done, how well it rides, how clean the interior is, how much you love the car, and how nice the stereo sounds.

E) Meticulously clean the car, windows, engine compartment, and use something on the tires to make them shine. For under the hood, use Armor All on everything except the exhaust. It makes Aluminum and rubber look very clean.

F) You may have to wait for your idiot, but they are out there. I sold a 79 Datsun pickup with over 200k miles, floppy shifter, and dents/scratches on every square foot of the body, incorrect front turn signals, no radio, and a cheap seat cover for $1750 in 1997. Oh, it did have a Weber and a 20kv coil which did make it run rich unless you gapped the spark plugs .020 over which worked for a few weeks.

G) Finally, accept only cash, cashier's check, or personal check if you call the bank to verify funds but I still make plea for cash in that case unless it's late Sat or Sun. Do not take money to hold the car. Tell the buyers that you're selling to the first person with the money, but if they go get it now and call you when they are on their way back you'll hold it for an hour or something because you really like them and think they will take good care of your "baby".
