Ford cranks up Focus production to meet C4C demand

Automotive News, via Autoblog:

Quote:
Further proof that Cash for Clunkers is fueling sales of small cars comes today by way of Ford. The Blue Oval is reportedly cranking up production of the Focus compact in order to satisfy demand. Shortly after the government's scrappage plan was launched, news came that the Ford Focus was the top-selling nameplate on Cash for Clunkers trade-ins, though it was subsequently replaced by the Toyota Corolla and Ford's own Escape.

No matter what vehicle is benefiting the most from C4C, we're sure the hard hit auto workers at the Wayne Assembly plant will appreciate the overtime, which will run from now through the end of September and will result in an additional 6,400 Focuses rolling down the line. For those interested in the numbers, Ford reported a 44-percent increase in Focus sales in July over the previous month.

Tax payer money from people who CAN'T afford a new car, (which is most Americans), being used to fund up to a $4,500 discount for people who CAN afford a new car. Taking from the poor and giving to the rich! The poor get poorer and the rich get richer. "We're going to spread the wealth around" <--- Obama. Oh really? Mr.Obama, what a great idea...NOT! :(

Umm... How do the rich get richer? Its not cash4BMWs, lol. Most people that drive "clunkers" are within a lower-midclass range.

However, the ones who cant afford new cars will still be driving clunkers, while their tax money goes to people with more money then them who are trading in clunkers, so I see what you're saying in a way.

I don't think many rich people qualify for C4C, so can you explain this a little more?

This, "wonderful", big government, socialism plan from Mr.Obama is plagued with flaws that take it from being, "not perfect", to an utter chaotic fiasco!

1. Destroying perfectly good vehicles that someone who can't afford a new car, needs to buy in order to have transportation. This really hurts millions of Americans who can't afford a new car and need transportation. I think it fair to say that most Americans can't afford a new car, (especially in this economy). Perfectly good used cars are being destroyed way before their time. This is pure WASTE and YOUR tax money is being used to fund it! I guess these citizens are supposed to walk now? What do they do for transportation when they can't find a used car they can afford because so many of them have been CRUSHED by Mr.Obama's SOCIALISM government, using YOUR MONEY to do it?!

2. Destroying perfectly good engines that a junkyard could resell to someone who needs an engine for their car, but can't afford a new car. How is it fair to take business away from junkyards? How is it fair to reduce the ability of someone to fix up their car? To take away someone's transportation is taking away one of our greatest freedom's!

3. I have read news reports of charitable organizations such as the United Way, the Salvation Army, etc., since this cash for clunkers wealth-redistribution began, that they have lost approximately $75,000 in vehicles that used to be donated to them. $75,000 they needed to pay for operating costs and to help people that are in dire need. THIS is caring for the, "common man"? What a cruel joke!

4. It takes far more raw materials and creates a far greater stress on the environment to build an entirely new car, than to simply fix up an older car, so this is also very environmentally UNFRIENDLY!

5. The program stipulates that the new car replacing the supposed, "clunker", (perfectly good cars), has to get an average of 2 mpg greater fuel efficiency. Would it not be more cost efficient to simply do some work on the older car so it can get a 2 mpg increase? I've done this with my own cars for many years as millions of other Americans have! Americans don't need Mr.Obama's SOCIALISM to achieve this! We are NOT stupid! We are NOT helpless! We DON'T need a socialism-style baby sitter!

6. If a person were to break into someone's home and steal $4,500 so they could buy a new car, that would be stealing and a crime. But when Mr.Obama's socialism government does it, somehow it's now,"okay"?!

7. What of the 14 million Americans who are unemployed, some of which I am sure need transportation? They can't afford a new car, so how is this helping them? What are they to do for transportation?

8. What of the people who can't afford a new car and are driving a very old car that only gets 10-12 mpg let's say and this fiasco of a socialist government program is DESTROYING cars that get 18 mpg?! Where is the common sense here?!

9. Since WHEN is our government supposed to be in the automotive business?! This is pure socialism!

10. If Mr.Obama and his socialism cronies really wanted to help Americans, the simplest and most effective way to do this would be to reduce taxes on Americans and American businesses and not take that $4,500 rebate from the tax payers in the first place! We know how to spend our OWN money better than some paper pushing socialism bureaucrat in D.C. does, and we can do it far more efficiently than they can! It's OUR MONEY, NOT THEIRS!

11. Most of the new cars that are being purchased with this socialism program are FOREIGN CARS, which means YOUR American taxpayer money is being SHIPPED RIGHT OUT OF THE COUNTRY to some FOREIGN LAND. What a, "great", idea! NOT!

12. This socialism program, cash for clunkers, INCREASES the national debt even further, bringing us closer to a financial collapse, which will lead not only to a financial depression in America, but all around the world. This kind of, "leadership", from Mr.Obama represents a serious threat to not only America, but to the entire world!

13. When this socialism cash for clunkers program is not in effect, new vehicle sales will plummet of course. Consumers who can afford a new car will wait until the program is offered again, so they can save up to $4,500 for a new car! The long term affect will be a REDUCTION in new car sales, hurting the very reason this socialism program was begun in the first place, (or so the socialists claim).

14. Every time we allow a socialistic government program like this to get into our wallets, we are handing over control of OUR lives to the all controlling big government and that is NEVER a wise idea. The more control we hand over to a socialism government, (including our very personal health care!), the more >> FREEDOM we LOSE! <<

15. America has been a great nation because of its PEOPLE, NOT the GOVERNMENT! Get Mr.Obama's socialism fiasco OUT of American's lives that have always been grounded in FREEDOM and NOT socialism!

To borrow a phrase from one of our all time greatest leaders, Pres.Reagan - "Big government isn't the answer, big government is the problem!" Truer words have rarely been said!

This insane cash for clunkers socialist program is a PLAGUE in many more ways than one!

I literally thank GOD that I still have some freedom of speech left, (despite Mr.Obama and his cronies efforts to the contrary), to state the TRUTH about this fiasco of a scheme on the American people!

Freedom of speech is for EVERYONE, not just those you happen to agree with!

Well, I agree with most of those except for #10
You paid your taxes to the government, it's basically the governments paycheck for their job. Now they get to spend it on what they want.
