Really dissapointed in Ford for this...

http://www.crownvictoriasafetyalert....gnproblem.html

Not only is this an obvious design flaw, but there isn't a new model of the crown Victoria to correct these issues. Kind of sad.

It bothers me that these cars are used mainly by officers, the people who get in wrecks the most.

Very true, however I don't think it's a careless design flaw. I don't think they are aware of the issue and are just too lazy to fix it or don't care and just brush it off, you've got to look at it from their perspective. There has to be something that is stopping them from moving the fuel tank, because if there wasn't I'm sure even more people would be up in arms about it for sure.

1. The Tarus is FWD.
2. The 'Vic is RWD.

There is a drive shaft in the way of moving the tank infront of the rear axle. Plus, if the did move it infront of the rear axle, wouldn't they have to completely rework the floor pan to make it fit under the rear seats?

Are there any other cars that are crash tested at 75MPH?

You don't think a GM, Ford, Dodge truck could suffer from the same/similar with drivers side impact (T-Bone)?

I find the whole ordeal to be quite ridiculous. Being rear ended at 75MPH there are other things I'd be more concerned with, like am I going to be able to live through it or ever walk again.

Put a Focus in a 75MPH rear end accident and see what happens.

They'd have to fit it like the Thunderbirds, gas tank was ahead of the rear end and in 2 pieces. Real PITA to work on, everything had to come out.

Lives have been lost to this, and its rediculous to you? How do you redeem a situation where someone lost thier life trying to protect citizens like you?

Imagine that plus an explosion.

Granted that this is a site run by those who have lost loved ones to this situation, it may not be as serious as they make it seem, it still is pretty serious.

Wow, now this is a resurrected issue. This has been beaten to death starting in the late '90s.

Ohh btw, I'm not referring to the civilian cars. Alot of civilian cars have a post-rear-axle mounted gas tank.

Just the police cars, the ones that are built to fishtail cars and form barricades.
