Question Why does everyone need a "How To"

Over the past few weeks I've seen so many people asking for "how to's" for the simplest of things... doesnt anyone know how to work on cars anymore???

I mean come on... do you really need a how to for installing a CAI or SRI???

Or changeing your plugs???

Thats like installing the Dog bone mount??? I've seen people ask questions like "Do I need to put the car on ramps/jack it up?"

Well if you cant fit under it then YES you need it in the air.....

If most people would just step back and look at their up coming project you can pretty much figure out what needs to be done by just looking at it.

Grouchy this morning? lol.... Well belive it or not there are people that have no idea on how to work on their cars. I had a friend that added 4 qts of oil on top of his old oil. after his car started smoking very bad he came to my house to try to find out what was wrong. He told me that the mechanic said he needed new oil so he added it. ..lol It was halarious..He had oil all in is intake. I had to drain the oil out and have him get new oil and oil filter. Thats when he learned how to do an oil change..

I feel ya john, A how to on puting in a CAI that came with instuctions is redondit. I try and write how tos on things that I came up with, because there were no instructions or haynes manuel.

That brings up a good point to, why doesnt everyone you works on a car own a manuel?

I have to give props to those who actually do Try, But most thing come with instructions...That reminds me I have to teach my wife how to change a tire. She told me the last time she had one that she "just had her Daddy do it." (Very cute IMO)

I have to agree. I'm about to do a How to: Change your oil. Just to stop some of the silly questions. I wonder if it's just people wanting to look at pictures, instead of reading the instructions. Or, maybe they really are just unsure of how to do even the simplest things. But, it's always better to ask, then to destroy your car. Usually, searching would have been a better approach, than asking what most of us feel are dumb questions. Like, "How can I avoid messy oil filter removal?"

well i for one can figure most things out myself.... however i like to research things i haven't done before, or get advice if/when i get stuck on something, and i also like to ask questions before i do something that could possibly be wrong and won't be able to undo what i did....

I just put in a short shifter and on the '08's there is a 3" plastic tube tha i ended up having to cut, but i had to make sure from someone else who has already done it....just in case...

I can see some people needing a how to for some things (head removal, timing belt, etc), but for some of the stuff thats been asked on here is amazing... I've seen peopel ask for how to and pics for changing out your air filter.... the stock panel filter.

But what gets me is the people that already have 4-5 mods done to the car that they have done and they are still asking for how to for super simple things.

And I've noticed that some of the how to's have un-needed steps in them.
