Cat-back exhaust recommendation... with a small twist.

Having bought a 2002 focus recently, it will be needing a new exhaust in a little bit; mainly for look but the muffler is getting a little tired. I need some help as i really don't know what is out there.

A few requirements:

unfortunately im oldish now, i'm not 19 anymore, and really loud cars aren't cool. i don't mind a little throat, but do a fair bit of highway driving and having the exhaust drone away @ 3000 rpm for 3h+ at a time is not acceptable.

Can't hurt the torque too much (i see that from the dyno results of the Magnaflow) coming off a VW, i really miss torque (i don't mind high rev ceiling in the Zetec though :) )

I Live in the city, all emissions must stay in place.

I am not picky to construction, alum-mild still or stainless, don't care. I also have the ZX5, which makes the wheel base a bit longer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

if you want quiet then check out the focus sport (fswerks) stealth exhaust.

or if you wanna be super ninja about it, keep the stock exhaust and get some cut-offs.

What do you consider "loud?" My family always thought my car was loud until my brother got a MR2 without a muffler, they then revised their definition and realized how quiet mine is lol.

I run a Borla catback, the sound is nice, not too loud, there is a little drone on the highway but the wind and road noise is louder.

Turbo MR2? its too bad Toyota does not do anything completely uncivil like the Mk4 Supra or MR2 turbo anymore.

Listening on the Magnaflow website, that with a resonator would probably be about right. I would like to say stock SVT sounding, but as SVT were so unbelievably rare in Canada, i don't know that would be accurate. I would like to have more of a gurgle to the exhaust, but certainly something that does not tell people im coming.

I had considered just adding a nice SS tip, although once you get the car on the lift and get the welder out, you could probably have the whole exhaust replaced on the focus, they are very simplistic. As said above, last vehicle was a VW... focus parts are sooooo bloody cheap.

Just to correct a common misconception, ALL Focus' are built on the exact same wheelbase - no difference at all between ZX3, ZX5, sedan or wagon. The sedan is a bit longer behind the rear wheel for the trunk. The wagon is a little bit longer still.....

FSwerks wont ship to Canada :(, living in Canada sucks for stuff like this; although i would rather break my leg here than the USA.

(and yes, they tend to notice when people buy stuff in the USA and try to drive back, an exhaust maybe not, but they certainly notice wheels and tires)

You need a US shipping address, or a buddy with one. I get to save the money I would have to pay if I broke my leg there, plus I get access to all the parts too to spend it on.
