Climate Control System

'05 Focus

The knob that operates the air diverter (air to feet, dash, windshield, etc.) broke or something on Friday. Knob just spins. Diverter stuck on windshield & feet setting.

How do I remove that panel to inspect for and repair damage?

Thanks,
Steve

That big bezel just pops off. Start at the upper right top corner using a flat blade like a small puddy knife. Be careful not to scratch/dent the dash. There are six clips on the corners that just snap in.

I think you can reach under the dash on the left side of the heater housing.....and manually turn that mode lever (in an emergency).

Popped the panel off at lunch. In messing with the switch, I got it to go over to dash instead of windshield/feet. Now I won't bake on the way home. I'll try to pull the switch tonight and see if I can figure out what the problem is.

I pulled the panel off at lunch. Stopped by Brandywine Autoparts (BIG recycling/salvage/junk yard) on the way home. Found an '06 where I could access the panel. Pulled it off and disconnected the wires in back (didn't want to do it on my switch until I knew how in case I broke something). Took the control portion off the panel and took it to my car to try it out. As soon as I disconnected the wires on the back of the controls in my car, I knew it wasn't the knobs. There is a small silver wire inside the cable and it was really loose. It was tight on the one in the yard.

Now I have to find out where and how the cables that attach to the back of the control switch attach inside the dash.

Anybody know what I am talking about and how to remove that cable?
