civic vs ford

I just purchased a 2009 ford focus coupe. I looked at the civics...but I did not test drive them. The dealer was unwilling to come down in price and i could not see how a civic could be so much better than all the other compact cars.

I test drove everything else...expect the mazda...and the focus was my favorite.

Are the civics that much better than the focus, or is it just reputation?

Also, I am not talking about the Civic SI....just the standard model.

I think they're pretty even. Hondas are known to last forever. My 96 Taurus runs like a champ with almost 220k miles. So yeah. I personally like them equally. I also think the Civic looks better than the new Focus.

I actually cross shopped the Fit and the Focus because they were close in price for the equipment you get. I never test drove the Fit because the salesman at one of the local Honda dealerships was a being complete douche, Frank Ancona Honda if you're local. I had already driven the Focus and like some others have said it is really quiet and rides really well for being a compact, but I couldn't imagine going back to deal with those jerks at Honda with the "their shit don't stink" mentality. Kudos to Bob Allen Ford for winning me over with a good product and excellent customer service.

Don't act like this hasn't happened with Ford.

i test drove the civic and honestly the new civics dont feel like hondas at all. but anyway, it wasnt that the engine doesnt have power it just makes more power on the other side of the tachometer, i didnt like that too tough. the difference that i saw was that honda does quality all over the car and ford does quality on the high use, high touch parts only. like the steering column of the honda was nice and the steering column cover on the focus is cheap and has large gaps. honda fills in the gap between the dash and the windshield with a trim peice, not so with the new focus, you can see the styrofoam material bonded to the glass. because these areas are low contact points, meaning you dont see them often, and they are so damn petty i dont even think about it but i could tell the difference when i did think about it.

I preferred the Focus coupe over the Civic because there was more interior room, better acceleration and a lower price. Plus around here Civics are literally a dime a dozen. But the real deal clincher was that the Focus was cheaper on the INSURANCE RATES (at least for me)than the Civic.
