Why is Ford paint so terrible?

I keep my 04 Focus SVT in prime condition. I cant seem to stop my paint from peeling/chipping off. Especially around my trunk area, some parts are even starting to RUST! it really pisses me off because all my other cars I have ever owned ive been able to keep the paint in mint shape but im finding it hard with my Ford. My girlfriend also had a 2001 Focus SE and it had the same problem, as well as my 2000 Cougar. Does any one else have this problem with their ford?

hrm weird my focus has chipped paint everywhere, never had a gm do that. and its not even from rust (though my car has plenty), just big sections of missing paint layers down to the primer. almost like whatver primer they used it didnt let the paint stick very well.

We don't have that big of a difference in our climates, but I'm happy to say my paint is holding up just fine.

Is your car parked outside all the time?
Maybe under a tree?
Any coal fired powerplants nearby?

My paint is kinda bad in some spots but alright I guess. Right in front of the back wheel on both sides it's wearing away on the bottom of the back fairing thing. I hate it. I part outside in the summer and in the garage in the winter.

There are areas on my '06, mostly around the hatch area, where the paint was very thin......you can see the primer. Some of these areas have started to surface rust. I have been sanding down the worst spots, and repainting. None of these areas is visible with the hatch closed, but the paint was very poorly applied none-the-less.

Needless-to-say, I'm less than pleased.

Do you park in a garage, or outside?
One thing to look at is the possibility of airborne pollution. How is the paint holding up on your neighbor's (sorry, for you: neighbour's) vehicles? Do you live downwind from any large factory (It could be miles away.)? What does the underside of your car look like?

You'll have to do some detective work on this one. Contact Ford customer service in any case.

My '01 has some rock chips in the paint on the hood, but that's about it. I do notice that it shows scratches much more easily than our Pontiac does or even more than my dad's 08 Mazda6.

Aside from that, you wouldn't know that it had never been repainted, other than it's just a little dull from being 8 years old.

I know I tried the Klasse Car Kit on my car. The All-in-One followed by the glaze. I did it, it looked great: until it rained. It created perma-waterspots all over the car that would not come out no matter what. I contacted detailcity.com (where I bought it from) to ask for Klasse's contact information. Detailcity said to try a vinegar wash which I did. No change. Contacted detailcity again. No reply for months. Bought a random orbital buffer and different waxes up the wazoo. Over a few months I have been able to get it looking decnt again, but it will never be perfect. One final email to detailcity about a month ago complaining about their customer service they said there was nothing else they could do.

They didn't try to remedy the situation nor did they give me Klasse customer service contact information. So now I'm spreading the word that I will NEVER buy from detailcity again!

Have a nice day
