They used what??? for the CARS program

I was reading on Yahoo.... that the dealerships that took the vehicles that qualified for the CARS program and poured in Liquid Glass to disable the engine..... all I could think of what if somebody needed a part form one of those engines

that makes me upset

They could have saved the engine and atleast tried to make it more fuel effecient somehow

i read the dealerships must dispose of the old "clunkers" by taking them to the crusher.

They should be melted down, so the materials can be recycled. I think the goal is too get the old cars off the road. Not to replace parts on another clunker that should be scrapped.

I actually just traded in my 95 Town Car on the CFC deal and it's still sitting on the backlot of the dealership. I don't think they've decided what to do with them yet.

Personally I think they could have revamped this a little bit better. My friend was telling me that he was getting cars traded in that barely had 40,000 miles on them and were ready to be back out on the road. But according to the Cash For Clunkers deal that nothing on the vehicle was to be returned to the public. The vehicle was to be deemed a total loss and sent to be scrapped. Makes me sick to see these vehicles being destroyed when they have a lot of life still left on them. How many actual clunkers do you see pouring into the dealerships? I haven't really seen that many and from what I gather not many of the older cars are coming in. Most of the people who own the old clunkers can't afford to buy a new car even with the rebate to help them so they stick with what they have and when that car dies they sell it they upgrade to another clunker until they can afford something nicer. What this is doing is removing possible vehicles from the used car market which in the future will drive the price up on the used vehicles since there will be a market shortage on them. I wish they would specify on what you can turn in and what is considered a clunker. A little more thought put into this and the program probably would have gone over better but I would rather not have it in the first place due to the fact that we will be paying for this short lived program for quite a few years.

Well if it makes you feel any better my Town Car had 269k on the oringinal motor and transmission. So I don't think anyone would have wanted it.

What did you expect?
Used parts don't keep anyone but the scrap yard workers in business. While destroying usable parts keeps everyone else in business. Makes perfect sense.

LMAO

Thing is though, the cars that really should be bared from the road will still be on the road because if the owners had the money to replace them they would. The 1992 Buick Park Avenue than keeps eating head gaskets and power steering pumps will only remain because the owner doesn't have a job to make payments.
No worries. With the cars he would have been able to salvage parts from now destroyed his will soon be off the road also . . . and he may very well end up in a soup kitchen or dead.

Only in America.
Give us your hungry, tired and weak . . . and we'll drug them, beat them and send 'em back.

There's no doubt that the program could be better managed. Also it would have been smart to take the cars that the closing dealerships, and have used them for the program.
