Cash for Clunkers Successful, NOT Suspended

We were pretty skeptical of the federal CARS (aka. Cash for Clunkers) rebate scheme. But the program’s been much more successful than anyone anticipated.Originally, $1 billion was set aside for CARS rebates, enough to trade-in about 250,000 vehicles. The plan was for CARS to continue through November 1 or until the money ran out. Yet [...]Related posts:

According to the WSJ, a Ford spokes person said their most popular car traded in for cash has been the Explorer and the most popular car bought was the Focus

"In one sign that it is working as intended, Ford sales analyst George Pipas said that among the company's models, the most-traded-in vehicle was the Ford Explorer SUV, and the most popular replacement was the new Ford Focus, a compact car rated at about 27 mpg."

It makes sense that the Explorer was the most commonly traded SUV, it was the best selling one for over a decade.

I actually just traded in a 1995 Town Car (with 269k) on the CFC deal, I got $4500 for the Lincoln and an additional $2500 in rebates. So I got a 09 SE 5spd for 10.6k

Honestly this would be a great program if it wasn't abused so much..... y'know? let those people that REALLY have bad clunkers get a chance; Not someone with a 3 year old car that happens to fall maybe 4 mpg below the guide...

I also think that what they're doing as far as getting rid of the cars is an absolute waste and doing more harm than good. Don't destroy the engine, take it out, use it more wisely in those new fuel efficient vehicles. Why don't we ship those "clunkers" off to other countries, ones that are still driving around in pre-soviet vehicles that are tons more polluting.... and destroy those engines or something.

It's great to have a program like this, but honestly we're just getting into more debt, and it really isn't helping out the planet all that much, if at all. If we're really going to do something, I think they need to revise the rules, and focus on not just the US but other countries as well.......replace their cars with our so called clunkers.

i may have posted this in the other one but i don't remember. my parents did theis and they got 3500 for hte truck they traded in. chrysler matched that 3500, sicne it was a truck they got an additional 5500 and they work for the dealer ship.... so a 45K truck after taxes and what not.. got for 25K.... but my dad is stripping hte truck. taking off the bed, AM headliner, trailer brake control. so he made out very well for it!

By the way..... if they REALLY wanted to get something out of this, they would allow pre-84 vehicles. but then they'd be way out of money.
