I refuse to pay $100 for a key!!

Just got back from the dealer, I need a new set of keys and remote for my Foci..dealer told me to make a appointment with service because its the only way they can get me a new key, he said it will be about $100 bucks for a key and $50 for the remote (door lock remote). What f#$king bull crap is that!! I refuse to pay that for a key and remote, there's gotta be other options besides the stealer ship.

you can get blanks online i think and have any good locksmith program your chip and cut the key...it will cost about 35 dollars i think maybe less...still ridiculous but less than 100

^^^That's true as long as You have one working key currently. Check Ebay, I paid $10+/-$2 plus shipping for 2 keys, and as was said, had Them both cut and programmed for right around $30. Just make sure the locksmith is a real locksmith, and one that regularly works on cars, not just a key cutter(eg Home Depot)

Good locksmiths have the programming hardware to set a key up. I've seen them do it.

Yes that is correct.

I didn't know a locksmith could program keys. Good to know.

just went thru this price-gouging myself,,,I got 2 key blanks thru e-bay (less than $20- don't remember exactly). called a local dealer, yes, $100 PER KEY to cut and program!! continued calling dealers and found one that would cut and program ALL MY KEYS for $50 !! this is good because now ALL MY KEYS have their OWN IDENTITY in the computer, brain, module, whatever it is called. no CLONES. SOME dealers WILL NOT program a third-party key, you HAVE to buy theirs. call around, you may get lucky,,,NOW IF I COULD JUST GET THESE KEY FOBS PROGRAMMED TO THE CAR-i will be happy !! (for now)
the car enters program mode, but that is all it does. i was under the impression that if you have auto door locks, you are set up for the keyless entry fobs. can ANYONE confirm this ?? this is THE BEST auto forum i have ever found!! GO FF!!

Ford tends to be cheap when it comes to including extra hardware, so I wouldn't expect the antennas to be there if it wasn't an option. You could try, but I won't gaurentee it will work.

http://www.focushacks.com/mod/Progra...eyless_remotes
1) Gather all the remotes you plan on using with your car.
2) Get in car, fasten seatbelt, and close doors to make sure it doesn't beep when you turn the ignition to "Run"
3) Place key in the ignition.
4) Turn the ignition to "Run" (Not Start), then back to "Off" at least 4 times in 6 Seconds, stopping at "Off"
5) The car will make one "BONG!" tone, like when you leave the car door open with the keys in the ignition.
6) Hit "Unlock" on each remote you wish to use. Wait about 1 second between each remote. You only have a window of 10 seconds to add your remotes. Only 4 can be added at a time, and if you add any remotes, then all the ones that used to work for the car that you did not program will not work.

1
Sit in the car with the doors shut and unlocked, and with your seat belt fastened to avoid interference from the seat belt reminder chime.

2
Put the key in the ignition, and turn it from position one ("Off") to position three ("On") rapidly eight times within 10 seconds, ending in position three.

3
The Ford Focus doors will lock and unlock automatically, signaling that the car is in remote keyless entry programming mode.

4
Within 20 seconds, press any button on each keyless remote. After each remote is programmed, the car doors will automatically lock and unlock to confirm successful programming. When all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to position one. The doors will automatically lock and unlock, confirming that remote keyless entry programming is complete
