Recharge kits for CAI's

I just got my AEM CAI in the mail today. Does it matter if I use a K&N recharge kit for my AEM filter (the same model that came out of the box with the CAI)? I don't really want to pay shipping for an AEM recharge kit!

Also, how will I know when to clean the filter? (besides "it's dirty looking.") how can I tell it's dirty?

Just soak it in some water for a while and get all the dirt out and then you can use any brand oil to oil it up. I'm sure AEM works better w/ AEM and vice versa, but they're preety much all the same.
It'll just look dirty.

Is it not a dry-flow filter? Mine was.

Make sure before you go spraying oil on it.

Yes be sure to check. I think all recent AEM CAIs use their DryFlow filter.

To clean/recharge that all you need to do is wash it in soap and water.

That's all I do with mine.

When to clean the filter is up to you and the type of driving you do. If it is normal road conditions I would say every 3000 to 5000 miles is fine (or if you prefer, when it looks dirty).

If you live in a really dusty place 500 to 1000 miles is probably more appropriate.

if you got it from aem it is most likely a dryflo filter.

there will prob be a sticker on the filter or it will be on the box of the filter itself

funny thing, I bought it off eBay for $55... SMOKIN' DEAL! lol so I don't have any paper work just the materials (tubes, connectors, clamps, filter)
It's a gray AEM filter. it's definitely not wet or oily, so I'm going to assume it's the DryFlow model
thanks guys I love FF

Yeah, definitely a dry flow.

Here's a pic just for comparison.
