shipping an ST from mexico possible?

Just wondering if anyone has shipped or bought a car from mexico and shipped to the US. It would be nice to pick up an ST and drive it across the border.

Yeah haha if you were out here you could try to swap in a VIN from an old Focus and you'd probably be good to go. When my brother had an old car "inspected" all they had to do was look at the number in the windshield.

But I don't know how easy it would be to haul that car across the border without raising some eyebrows.

LOTS of red tape going through customs.......which it WILL have to do since it is coming into the U.S. permanently. Has to meet safety requirements, etc. Don't know what modifications you would have to do to it, since the car has never been 'federalized' here. Only way around this that I can think of is if you have a permanent residence established in say Tijuana with a job in the U.S., you could own one and drive it into the U.S. Quite a few people in the San Diego area are doing this.

if you wait 25 years you can. i just read an article in a car magazine that said once a car is over 25 years old you can import it into the us and they dont really care. now i dunno about inspections and emissions tho lol.

I was in Juarez not to long ago and see a lot of people driving into the US. I know registering it would be a B!%#, but if I could get my hands on a used one for a decent price will it be worth the trouble? I was hoping Tom could chime in since he is down there and mught have the 411 on this.
