2009 - Turbo Focus vs Stock Cobalt SS

Here's an interesting scenario. The Cobalt SS seems to be a good point for comparison because of the rave reviews it has been getting in the segment.

Comparing 2009 MY for both, and assuming the following upgrades to the Focus:

1) FS Turbo Kit Stage 2 (~$4000)
2) 2.5" exhaust (any) (~$400)
3) Suspension Kit (say the full FRPP kit ~$650)
4) Quaife LSD (~$700?)

Total ~$5750 in mods.

How would it compare?

I'll start: Hard to say much about the comparing suspension performance but from a raw HP perspective they should be fairly close (222HP on a dyno with the Focus compared to 260HP "listed" for the SS).

Disclaimer: I have no intention of performing any of these mods, just interested in the discussion!

I can't really say but what u have to remeber is the ss has been professionally tuned and track tested like on the nurburgring. It's one thing to add parts but to tune them all to the car and all the mode is another thing. Also you better look at upgrading ur brakes as well. You can make the Foch perform just as good just you'll need to put more into it then just parts. Besides brakes I'd recommend f/r sway bars also.

Don't forget clutch. And we have Turbo tom. I hear he does great work, even with remote tuning.

Its $7000+ if you add clutch and a few other things like gauges and J&S....

Now, if you piece together a kit, you'll be able to bring that down.

i don't think the SS has the same handleing as the focus. if you got two good drivers on a twisty course i think the focus would win even if you didn't do any major upgrades to its suspension. as for in a straight line i think you would be hard pressed to keep up with the SS but its possible.

The cobaltSS/TC is a monster. Very fast and handles really well. I have owned a svtf and the 09 SS handled just as good in stockform. There is a reason its the fastest fwd production car on the Nurburgring. It would be difficult to match the SS with even a base model focus for the 20k you can get the SS for right now. Given a choice tho i would still take a euro focus ST over a SS anyday.

if power outputs were even, the focus "should win". It handles more neutrally, and is lighter. but it would come down to the driver.

NO! The SS is starting where the Focus is Arriving.

With that said, i don't really like the looks or the feel of the SS. But that's just me.

i would say if you got a gen.1 focus 2.3 and put the same mods in it that were listed you could get away for around 13k-15k total including price of car
