I have an odd question about Mustangs.

It's just a curiousity question. What year did they start putting V6's in them?

I know they had that mustang II until 1982, and in 1982 they used a "6", but was it a straight or v?

The Mustang II was sold for the '74 - '78 model years, based on the Pinto platform. It was available with a 2.8 liter V-6.

When the 'fox platform' Mustang came out in '79, it had the straight 6 in it from the Fairmont (same platform). I'm not sure when they switched to a V-6 in the fox body - maybe around '93?

I believe the ones in the 80's were a v6. The previous ones were inline, starting with the 170 cu.in 6 that was in the 1964 Mustang.

94, when it switched to the SN95 platform.

I think the original 1964 and a half was offered with a 6 cylinder.

The four eyed fox had a V6. They switched from the I6 somewhere between 80-83, I actually just pulled the V6 from my 84 a month ago to replace it with an 8.

Yeah well, I've been warned by the mods and I'll probably be banned. I'm not taking it off. So, if I don't get a chance to say it, it's been short and fun!

Yes, the Pinto Stangs had the first generation of the Cologne V6, a 2.8 carburetor version. Later that engine became the 2.9, then finally the 4.0, and 4.0 SOHC. I do not know if there was an I6 in those year models, it's possible. Personally, I prefer a good I6, but I have to go Euro to get one for hp. Now the 300 Ford 6 was a tank, as well as the engine that came in the Mustangs- but compared to modern engines, not real power producers for performance. Now a 3.0 I6 based on the D20 engine would be very interesting.
