Thumbs down New RS is NOT coming to the US...

I guess it was kinda expected anyways... But maybe one day ford will give the U.S. a boosted focus...

Quote:
Since the European-only Ford Focus RS hot hatch entered production back in January, enthusiasts in the U.S. have been hoping, wishing, and otherwise attempting to channel the powers that be to bring it to the American market. Unfortunately, according to a recent Autocar report, all the wishing in the world won't make it so. Jost Capito, head of Ford's global performance division, has recently told Autocar that it will simply be too expensive to bring the Focus RS Stateside.

"We'd like to, but the base car isn't homologated for North America and that's too costly a job to carry out just for a niche vehicle like the RS," Capito told Autocar in an interview.

The statement doesn't come as a large surprise to us, as DOT and EPA hurdles can be expensive to jump. Still, we're disappointed -- especially after we drove the Focus RS in Europe and came away impressed. Even more recently, an American enthusiast spotted a Euro-spec Focus RS in Michigan, bringing more hope that the giant-killing three-door hatch might jump (or at least swim) across the pond after all. Still, we're keeping hope alive that we might see a Focus RS in our corner of the world with the introduction of the 2011 Ford Focus, which will be based on a global platform.

Not surprised. But it's still exciting that the new Focus will have the global platform, and have a Ecoboost in it, or at least available

The European Focus needs to come to the states now! I just picked up a brand spanking new 5 door hatch with 5K on the dial (5 kilometers) and this car is awesome. Veriously impressed! Even without an RS the Focus across the pond is hands down the car to have. Build quality is equal to my buddies 09 Audi A4.

So don't worry about the RS, just get the Euro car here in the next couple of years and do what you've always done and mod it.
