All them are good, Mobil 1 and Royal Purple I believe have the biggest following. I use Mobil1 and my friend uses RP...no complaints. RP is the most expensive out of all. Mobil1 I believe is alittle over 5 dollars a qt. Btw, why you using 5w30? is that what the SVT uses? Idk just saying cause the regular zetec uses 20. Also, don't go by price per qt. idk about down by you but I usually check out the deals at the autoparts stores. Advanced autoparts has mobil 1 specials year round, you get like 5 qts and a filter for like 30 bucks.

Pennzoil Platinum and Amsoil (both of the same weight) are the popular ones among the Speed guys.

Running PP in the Speed, and , back in the day, I ran RP in Ol' Blue. As long as it's from one of the name-brand folks, and it's full synthetic, you'll be fine.

Realistically(And I'm speaking VERY generally here), it all just depends on which brand you want to say you've got sittin' in yer oilpan.

Here in Texas, Walmart sells Mobil 1 for about $6.20 for those 1-qt bottles. AutoZone has them for around $6.90 if I remember correctly. Not sure how much for those 5 qt bottles though.

And all this time I've been under the impression that switching to full syn on high mileage cars was a bad idea...

I still stand by that.

Hey, I've been wrong before. If I am, I'll concede. Just it seems every shop I've been into lately has told Me not to switch, but I can't remember exactly why. But I do tend to agree with a previous post, choosing a brand is more about telling Others what is in Your oilpan than anything else. They should all be about equal in performance.

On high mileage cars, there is a rhyme to the reason. My understanding is that over time, some of the seals that your oil keeps in check, deteriorate, and deposits from dino oil prevent leakage despite a not-so-perfect seal. The rationale against synthetic was that it will break down those deposits and voila! Oil leakage.

People were saying the same about Seafoam as well.

I would assume that if the motor you(WRCwannabe)'re dropping into your car is relatively well-maintained, you won't have too much of an issue. There's nothing wrong with running dino oil if you don't feel comfortable switching to full synthetic, just change it religiously and yer fine.

I'm sure there's other reasons behind this, that someone more technically-inclined can elaborate upon, however, that's what I know.
