No Mazda Link on Ford's website?

Maybe I'm slow to pick up on things, but Ford's website no longer has a link to Mazda. What's funny is the Mazda symbol comes up to the left of the address bar when I go to Ford's website. I wonder which brand will be next?

Yeah they sold their shares of Mazda, though they will still work together on powertrains, etc. Ford is trying to sell Volvo.

Yeah, Ford only kept about a 10% stake in Mazda... sold the rest of its shares back to them. So now they only have a small stake in them. They are supposed to continue sharing powertaines and platforms, but they probably won't be as close as before.

Volvo is supposed to be sold sometime around Easter.

This is a good thing for Ford. They can concentrate on their core brands, cooperate with Mazda and Volvo, but not be liable for their expenses.

Now all they need to do is come up with a plan for Mercury. They need to either make it different enough to justify higher sticker prices or kill it. I say kill it and focus on Ford --> Lincoln just like Honda --> Acura, Nissan --> Infinity, and Toyota --> Lexus.

As GM has shown, too many brands does not work. It costs too much and dilutes your good brands. Why do you want to steal Fusion sales with the Milan?

I agree with the Mercury idea. Though Ford said they were going to keep it and have it be smaller cars only. They are supposed to come out with a car the size of the Focus for Mercury...probably more upscale I imagine.

I too think Ford should kill off Mercury. They need to reign things in a bit and keep their costs down. Lincoln can remain the upscale models.

I don't think Ford should kill of Mercury. Why not make it a relatively expensive performance lineup with luxury. Like Michael mentioned about Nissan - Infiniti, keep Mercury for that and let Lincoln have the big luxury lineup like they already got. Getting rid too much too quickly will land them in the same predicament as Kodak (laying of hundreds of thousands of people and selling 90% of their company). I don't know any sales figures, but all automakers are seeing somewhere around a 50% decrease in sales.

Why do Ford have these other "luxury" brands in the first place?

We don't have them in Europe.
