Can you lighten the focus anymore?

dunno if this belongs here or if i've asked it before but is there any way to lighten this car AT ALL?!? I went to the track a while back and my best was 17.2. Factor out the fact that i was new at it and it's still gonna be a bad time. I emptied the trunk entirely and went on much less than a quarter of a tank. SO, what can I do to make it faster? I know I could get some bolt on and all but what about weight? This little bugger actually seems to be pretty heavy which really surprises me alot. So if ya got any advice please let me know. Thanks, SPACE

After gutting the only way to go is custom. Get rid of the unsprung weight buy getting lite wheels (like.... 8lbs a piece), light rotors, lighter stronger control arms... Go dry carbon fiber for the trunk, hood, fenders. Poly windows, get rid of the air conditioning, power steering, power windows. Race gas tank, smaller battery......

That'll take a while..... and if your still wanting after that.... then #1, you need to just buy a lighter car, and #2, your looking at some madd shop bills cause your gonna have to get into cutting and welding.

I don't know man. Weight IS important, but is it really cost effective? I mean, for the price of everything I just said, you could probably leave the it where it is with the weight and blob out the engine (turbo, forged everything, custom intake/exhaust, mega-tunes, etc.) and your power to weight ratio would probably be the same or better....

I know that was a long list, but you'll probably get to that at some point if you keep racing and get better and better...... and .... well...... you see what I'm saying.

But anyways man, that's my 2 cents.

Either way you go, good luck.
And Happy Tuning!
Daniel

its not really advised for a DD, but you can go CF and braille battery, that will drop around 50 lbs or so. you could take out the back seats, spare, sound deadaning material, etc. if you wanna go all out race, i could point you in the right direction.

thanks for all the advice guys. I think i'm just gonna keep it simple for now. I was just wondering if there was anything else replaceable like the hood or something... and i don't think they make aftermarket 05+ fenders.

You should be able to cut times alot but just practicing. Another easy thing to do is the rear seat but other then that you'll start really ripping apart your interior. Like others said when you get to doing serious weight reduction sometimes its just better to upgrade the engine. BTW...the focus was never really meant to be a drag racer, so don't expect too much. A mild s/c should be able to put you into the 15s which is what a stock svt focus runs.

Nope, thats why I said just throw a s/c on it. He could get a used jackson racing s/c for probably around 1500 or less and still have a daily driver.
