New Focus...need suggestions

So, I just bought my 09 focus. It's red, two door, ses, manual transmission with the moonroof. I have never modded an engine before. I want more performance, some 18 inch wheels and low profile tires. Any Suggestions? I just want some suggestions for my focus. Are there body kits available for my model yet? Black wheels versus chrome? CAI? Exhaust? Let me know. Thanks.

steeda is the only cai on the market (technically its a sri). there are a few exhausts. Just look up BradWhite and do everything he has on his car.

Welcome to Focus Fanatics!

One thing to remember about 18 inch wheels is potholes. You can mostly dodge the ones you see, but the ones at night that you don't see, could break a wheel. If you are OK with that, then go ahead - just remember how much you paid for the wheels. As far as the wheel color, what looks good with red? There are some body kits, but they are more in the line of rocker molding, front lips (I think maybe a bumper) and rear valence, some hoods, but that's about it for now. If you want to do a true CAI, you will have to wait like the rest of us or make your own. Steeda does make what they call a CAI, but it is only a short ram. Exhaust - anything that will fit an 07 sedan will fit the 08s and 09s. I think some have released an exhaust for the 08 - 09 Focus, you will have to look, check Focus Sport, F2, TrueBenz, MBRP, or a Borla if you can find one. Borla still makes mufflers for the Ford Factory Racing Parts, but the complete exhaust is difficult. Plus check out the threads for the 08/09 Focus, there is some good info for modding and aftermarket parts, which everything I covered here will be in those threads (just on a expanded level).
Also, remember that the search feature is your friend.

yeah and putting anything over 16 inch rims completely negates any performance enhancements you've made. Your focus is clearly on show type mods, so dont waste money on engine mods taht wont really make too noticable of a difference.

Thanks for the input. I'm not opposed to 17s. I do want some performance. I checked out BradWhite's 08. I like the stuff he has been doing. What's the difference between a short ram and a cai. Is one better than the other?

short ram draws air from the engine bay, cai will be routed to grab it from a lower source. They both increase performance, but the CAI will be superior in stop and go traffic and anywhere where you'll experience heat soak from the engine.

What about an exhaust? It's a great way to add horsepower isn't it? Any suggestions there?

Where do I start?

I've posted a few topics here now getting ideas about what to do to my new focus. I guess I need to know...where should I start? I sort of already have. I'm tinting the windows next week. But what should I do first? Air intake, or exhaust? Start slow with inexpensive things? Or should I throw some wheels, or springs first? Anyone have a method to the car madness they do? Thanks for the input guys.

suspension is where you will get the most bang for your buck. it takes alot of money to ake the focus more powerfull, but only a little to make it more fun to drive!!! its fun when you can outcorner almost everything!!
