Is this ACTUALLY common? (pics inside)

so my 04 SVT focus has roughly 44xxx miles on it and is in pristine shape. I washed my car yesterday only to notice paint chipping off on the hatch . I called the ford body shop and he said thats super common for the focus'. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if I should be expecting MORE paint to just randomly chip off.
Here are the pics

and the exact same spot on the other side

used to see stuff like this on certain models of Saturn's at the body shop. Some of the plastic panels and trim would vibrate constantly, not enough to bother you, but enough to eventually wear out the clear coat. Once the clear is gone is an area, water gets in there and gets underneath, causing the paint to bubble and chip.

Sounds weird, I know, but that's what we pegged it to. I never thought to look at a Focus before, we got it on a lot of Saturns on the corners of doors/panels.

yank off that piece of trim, get some fine sand paper, knock that rust out of there, clean it really well and throw on some touch up paint.

okay thanks. Pretty irritating that this is happening considering I have taken really good care of it. Frustrating!

Mine did that. I fixed it, it chipped again, made the bodyshop redo it. It's good now!

Probably not real common in SoCal, unless you're into driving on the beach all the time.

You probably don't get enough snow in D.C. for that to happen. Edmonton gets lots of snow, and Winter temps there stay below 32°F(0°C) most of the time. They are also so far north that the sun doesn't help melt the snow and ice off of the roads, so they use lots of nasty things on the roads to melt the ice.

I don't think its rust related, I honestly think sometimes that trim piece on the hatch rattles, when they repainted mine the 2nd time, they put tiny rubber strips under the ends, to cushion it.
