Hard time not buying an 05+mustang GT

I sold the SVTF back in July so I could go back to finish my BS in Structural Engineering, it was very hard to do, but anyways I'll be done with school in May, and I've been saving my pennies; School is all set, the Job is more or less all set, and all I have to do is buy the car in the spring (my crappy 93 Ru is on it's last arm, the legs have been gone for some time now), sad thing is I keep going back to the mustang. The SVTF made me love hatchbacks, but with my budget, certain cars were cut off the list immidiately, requirements were widdled down real quick thanks to the horrible standards of modern automotive design: so all thats left is manual trans, fewer than 25,000miles, seats 4 (so no MSM, S2000, 350Z etc.), not boring to drive, black interior, must be built in its country of origin, NO SEDANS
heres the kicker I was actually looking into getting a Toyota Yaris hatch, with the TRD lowering springs and rear sway bar, but the car has drums in the rear and no power what-so-ever, and in the end will cost about 16,000 new (no used ones available, aparently Yaris buyers don't care for rear sway bars, or handling in general) I was comparing the Yaris to a used mini cooper s, since it's more my style, and comparing that to a MS3, but both were out of my price range. So for S&G's I got on auto trader and looked up 05+ Mustang GT's with the above mentioned specs (V6 mustangs don't exist in my book) and I found three 06's in my area that not only fit my requirements, but have black leather interior to boot with heated seats, in my two favorite colors (blue and red) for $16,000. so now I'm wondering why the hell don't I get a mustang again? My next car will be my DD, thus driven year round, and in the snow and all that good stuff, but I used to drive my 300rwhp Fox in the snow, with the appropriate tires and a little sand the car was great, and from what I read on the Mustang forums, the newer mustangs are even better in the snow due to the better weight balance. I was one of the most outspoken anti-new mustang people I know when I had my SVTF, the Live rear axle, the 5spd manual, the SOHC engine, I didn't think any of it was good enough for the "new" mustang, but then I drove one, and it is seriously bang for the buck, one of the most fun, dare I say funnest cars out there; cheap and fast. since my commute is going to be about 10 miles a day I'm not really worried about fuel economy (to an extent that is) and my dad gets 24mpg avg in his 05. oh yeah one more piece of info, the trunk in the mustang, has MORE cargo capacity than the yaris hatch... look it up; BTW i should mention RX-8 and G35 are out, performance vs dollar and reliability were too big of an issue with those two cars.

Well yaris is trash haha, don't even bother, theres much better out there. But yea great time to buy a used mustang, they so cheap, espeically since the new model is coming out. The new ones are better in the backend and arent as unstable as the older ones. The traction control system is supposly better. But yea you can easily grab a GT for under 20k loaded with decent options. I would get an 06 or higher if possible, you never really want to get a first year car. The only thing that I would say would be a problem is the snow in the winter...and vermont I would think tends to get alot. But yea throw some great snow tires on there and see how it is. Go for it

sounds to me like you found what you want. We'd love to see you get another FoFo, but hey, people's needs and wants change, and you are always welcome here, no matter what you drive.
Good luck!
BTW, I'm going to move this over to the Ford Focus and general car chat area for ya.

Yeah, I promised the other half I'd look at other cars too though, heres the short list..
-coupe-
05+ mustang GT (prob gunna be the winner)
05+ GTO (LS2 & 6 speed)
05+ G35
-wagon/hatch-
06+ WRX
06 Saab 9-2X Aero (aka 06 WRX wagon with different body)
-other- (not gunna happen, cause they only seat 2)
05+ S2000
04/05 MSM
06+ solstice GXP/Sky RL
05+ 350Z

the 08/09 wrx hatch are out of my budget or else they would be on there as well, I was originally looking for a RWD focus hatch, but that turned into a headache so i gave up on it; either it was automatic trans, carb'd, gutted race car which negated the hatch, or some other "cant use it every day" reason so i had to give up

Good list, I would ditch the Saab though, not a complete wrx, similar but very toned down and conservative. Suspension is much softer...stick with the real deal.

what about an MKIV or MKV Golf/GTI? quick, fun to drive, very nice interiors. REGULAR mazda 3 with the 2.3L still a fun car, not as expensive. even on 06 focus ST would be good. If your willing to go a little older you can get a nice BMW or even an Audi in your range. My buddy just got an 02 Audi TT for 12 with 42k on the clock. I know you said Ameican but you mentioned the WRX and toyota so i figured id give some input. I love VWs

while i hate to say this. audi TT's are NOT meant for more than two people. the back seat is a complete joke. granted i love mine. and its amazing. wouldn't recomend it for seating four.

and he said in "it's country of origin" so it had to be assemble where it was made.
