Where is Ecoboost?

For a while, that was the buzz surrounding new Fords... but where is it? I looked at 2010 Fusions, no mention of Ecoboost. No mention of it at all in the Fiesta news. I'm wondering if it just died off by the wayside like so many ideas that seemed good when first discussed. Perhaps they couldn't pull it off, or the NOx emissions were too high.

Does anyone know anything?

i've heard of it becoming a close reality with the f-150, mustang and taurus, and a possibility with the upcoming focus, thats what Autoweek has been saying

actually Ecoboost was CONFIRMED in the 3.5L V6 for the flex and the lincoln MKZ, 355HP twin turbo for both of them. They are looking at a 1.4L 4 for the focus.

Once again, no focus on small cars for the average consumer. Mustangs and trucks- yippee. Granted, I'd get one of the new Lincolns if I was in the market for such a vehicle, but I'd surely consider BMW's new diesel over an MKZ. I'm just goofy like that. 36 mpg on diesel, or 24 mpg on a turbo 6. Personally, I thought that the bigger Ecoboost was a slight let down. Supposedly the fuel economy of a 6 with v8 power. It has a lot more power than most V8's, and if you compare it to other 355hp engines- it does much better at the pump. Even so, 16 mpg in the city is low in my book, and those are the manufacturer's estimates- not the real world. I'm thinking that Ecoboost may go the way of the do-do in the bigger engines, and if they don't get a little high hp/high mpg engine on the road, the whole thing will end up scrapped like so many of Ford's great ideas in the past.

Ford has just announced (Posted Oct 28th 2008) its second production application of EcoBoost technology, a 1.6L four cylinder engine that will debut in 2010. This will be the first European Ford application of the gasoline turbocharged direct injection strategy that the company is pushing. The 3.5L V6 EcoBoost launches in the U.S. next spring. Production of the 1.6L will occur at the Bridgend plant in Wales where the volumes will rise to a total of nearly 1,000,000 engines a year.
The UK sourced engines will likely be used in the Focus and Mondeo (and derivatives) first. A U.S.-built version of this engine will probably debut a year or so later for American applications. [Source: Ford]

No word on EcoBoost for Fiesta yet, but my guess is Ford Europe might offer it in a Fiesta St variant.

I hope they don't put it in the Mustang. The Mustang should stay classic muscle, not use a small pumped up motor

2010 taurus isn't going to have ecoboost, it's a n/a 3.5l V6. and the 1.6 looks good, 180hp/180lb and supposedly 43 mpg hwy. Sure it's no rs, but the 1.6 will be alot more attractive to a wider audience.
