Exclamation Aftermarket Bumper 2 Bumper Warranty, Are They Worth It?

I just got off the phone with US Fidelis, I was checking into how much it would cost to get a bumper to bumper warranty on my 05 ZX3 with about 40k miles. The warranty came out to be about $2400 total, but could be paid in installments over 18 or 24 months. This warranty covers mechanical and electrical items only. Parts and labor are covered at any certified shop or Ford dealer anywhere in the US. Also included is 75 miles of towing and rental car service. You pay a $100 deductible for every repair.

The sales guy was a real slime ball, said that if I hung up and tried to call back, the coverage would be dropped to powertrain only, which Ford covers anyway until 100k. I simply wanted some time to think about whether this warranty would be worth it or not.

My dad has the same 05 ZX3 as I do and has 75k miles on it. He's replaced nothing but tires and oil and has had no problems with the car.

So this got me thinking, is a warranty like this worth the money on a car that seems to be pretty reliable already? One of the reasons I bought the Focus is the ability for it to be worked on, unlike something more complicated such as an Audi or VW. I figure if something goes wrong on the car, I can fix it myself and just pay for parts. Seems like if you treat the car nicely, it'll be nice back. I haven't had anything replaced under warranty for my car.

Have any of you had serious mechanical problems with their cars that have around 40K miles, making this warranty worth the money?

The duratecs seem to be pretty bulletproof. I wouldn't worry about it.

Ya I was thinking about how much I could need to buy in parts, but it all doesn't seem to expensive given that we can get parts cheaper from Mike @ Hillbish. The guy on the phone kept saying that allot of Foci have computer problems in FL because of the humidity and such; I find this hard to believe considering Ford probably knew of this and put SOME sort of weather proofing around vital engine parts such as the ECU. I kinda doubt I'll be putting around $2400 worth of parts and labor into my Foci, I'll just sell it before it starts falling apart.

Total waste of money, and if you Google a bit you'll find that most of them are a scam. First indication of this should be the sales guy saying if you hang up the deal changes. if the company where truly reliable and honest there would not be any special for you only deals, now would there.

Price out a reman engine long block once. Bet that $2,400 looks real bad then.

Also found EXACTLY what they told me! I told them my car has 40k miles, they said the cutoff for bumper 2 bumper is 36k, but they're doing me a favor and allowing it to happen. Here's the story I found on the www.complaintsboard.com website:

"stay away from these guys. i worked for these scum bags for a year and it is nothing but a high pressure boiler room atmosphere. they hook you by saying that your car doesn't qualify. Ex...if you have 43k miles on your car then the cut off is 40k so they have to get permission from a manager to make an exception. if you have 53k then the cut off is 50k. it's all high pressure sales. these guys are laughing all the way to the bank. the owners are darian and corey atkinson. corey built a big 16, 000 sq. ft home and darian is building a 33, 000 sq. ft mansion in lake st louis missouri and doing it by screwing people all day long"

That's lame how the guy at US Fedelis treated you lol! I went ahead and extended bumper to bumper to 100K when I purchased my 09 last tuesday- better safe then sorry, my 01 died at only 90k and I maintained it very well, so I say some kind of coverage will make you feel better!
