VDub clutch replacement

anyone done this before?
my buddys clutch just went out one his 2000 passat 1.8t
his grandpa said he would buy him a clutch but wouldnt pay for its replacement.
any help besides saying im over my head?

if you get part way through and decide you are in over your head you will have to pay for towing to the shop in addition to their standard rate to change the clutch. I recommend letting the mechanic do his job...

but, if you are a mechanic and have a lift... you are my new best friend!

Cause the Focus doesn't use any metrics.

Anyway, I know that I have all the tools necessary to take a Focus to the frame, and I still needed to take my Rabbit to a shop for my coilover install. Suspension is rather simple compared to a clutch install. To do a coil install you have to pull unbolt the axles and pull them from the hubs...I don't remember the size of the bolt that holds the axle on, but it was odd and I did not have the socket for it (nor did anyone that I knew locally).

I don't doubt that you can get the trans off, thats just bolts. Its the actual clutch swap.

Do yourself a favor and find a decent shop that specializes in VW, they are a pain.

yeah i know itl be a pain to do and i wouldnt be doing it except my buddy is broke and his gpa will only order the part. im still telling him to take it to a shop but if he wants to go thru wit the install i just wanted to be somewhat ready to do this
