Need some advice about VW

I'm looking for some advice from some other foci lovers/car fanatics. I recently listed my rail buggy on craigslist. For sale or trade. I was contacted by a man who had 3 cars; 2 bugs and a baja bug. I went today to look at them, and I think I want them, i was just looking for some other opinions. These are exactly what I'm looking for, some good quality restoration time.

Here is my current VW rail buggy. Runs great, but needs paint.

Here are the three that the guy is willing to straight up trade.

Both bugs have a motor, one is locked up. But with VWs a lock up is just buying two seals, soaking the motor in oil, and it will fire right up. All this and it comes with a motor and a new floor pan for the bug. It will take both to make one good bug, but I think its worth it, what do you think?

Thanks all.

Without being able to see all of them its hard to say - the body on the top one is shot - the lower one seems ok - the chassis will probably need re-newing - but it would probably be easier to build one from scratch. What motors are they 1500? 1600?

Mines 1600, the others are 1500 i believe. The red one is just surface rust, for the most part it is solid.

The 1500's are the most reliable engines Vw have made so thats a plus then!! In honesty if you get the buggy too i think its a good deal. Yeah i can see what you mean it could be peeling paint but im sure there will be some spot rust holes under that!!

I've had over a dozen bugs, buggies and a couple of Baja bugs... I wouldnt even consider that trade.

One is a bug the other is a super beetle, there not alot there that will transfer.. superbeetle's run a ball joint front end and the whole front of the car is physically longer than the other (that looks like a swing axle)

Your mid engine setup is worth more than all 3 of those put together... plus the 1500's are WEAK when compareed to the 1600 dual ports.

I would pass too. I've got a buddy of mine selling a 68 pope nose if your interested in a project car. Solid body no rust at all,car runs ruff, and the interior is garbage. Shoot me a p.m. and I'll hook you up with him if your interested.
