Growling noise from front wheel...stupid curbs!

n00b alert!

Whats up guys, new to this forum, but not new to forums by any means.

I come here in search of an answer::: Soo couple days ago I may have come into a corner a little too hot for winter conditions and just so happened to hit a curb while sliding sideways. I put some scratches in the front left rim, thats about the extent of the visible damage, and by no means are they serious scratches.

The only thing is, now that tire seems to make a growling noise that gets faster the faster you drive. I was thinking maybe a weight got knocked off the rim and thats what's causing the noise, however the steering wheel doesnt shake.

I was also thinking that maybe I knocked the alignment off, but can't imagine a misalign would cause such a noise?

A bent rim crossed my mind, I didnt hit the curb TOO hard, but it definately wasn't a graceful stop. I would think that a bent rim would cause much more serious shake then simply a knocked off weight or misalign, but there is no shake at all so I figured I might be able to scratch this one off this list.

The only other thing I can think of is that I pancaked the lip of the rim a tiny bit and therefore it might push the tire up, causing a bump in the tread and this could be the noise I am hearing? I am just trying to figure out what it might be, if its something simple I am pretty mechanically inclined and could probably fix it myself, otherwise I will take it to the garage but everything is booked up around here for the next week.

If anyone has experienced something like this/heard of it and could help out that'd be sick.

Regards,
-M

^^^^ Nailed it, put your car on jack-stands and depending if its the front or back wheel, set the car so you can freely and safely spin that wheel. You should hear a funky noise. Its most likely your bearing because they will roar when they go bad.

by no means is it a loud noise. Like it is obviously noticable but if you have the music on, or the fan on high you can't hear or feel it. I will jack it up and check though anyways.

If the bearing is gone the wheel should also have play if I push/pull the top/bottom right?

anyone have a rough idea as to how much a new bearing or axle is?
