"get a tune" question

I have heard alot of people on here telling other fofo members to just get a tune to get more hp out of your motor. Anyways, I am thinking about going that route but I don't quite know what getting a tune entails. Yeah...I know, I know ....but can someone please enlighten me?

Thanks!

for the duratec, you are going to want to go with sct tuner. focus sport will help you out, ive heard that they are the best for the duratec motor.

www.focussport.com

basically, they will re-work your ecu, tune it for a higher octane gas, maybe bump the compression up. if its an automatic, they will adjust the shift points for harder shifts

turn the egr off most likely, to get rid of the power robbing emissions bs..

any mods you have done, cold air intake, etc. will also play a factor in the tuning.

the actual process, buy the tuner from focus sport, tell them what you have done to the car and what you want the tune to do, they will load the tune on the device you buy(wether it is by you downloading it from your eamil, or they put it on the tuner, im not sure) then just plug into the obd2, and load, and done...
