Exclamation Lincoln Air Ride Suspension HELP!!!!

My Lincoln Mark VIII hydroplaned while going around a turn. 45 was the speed limit and I was going 40 through the turn. Car went into the water runoff and slammed the back end of the car into the runoff. At first the car was fine. Just broke the front air dam. Just had to pop it back in place. On my way to a friends house I realized that after every little crack in the road my car would bounce like a crazy lowrider on hydraulics. The back airbag are not filling up with air. The air compressor will not fill them back up. If anyone knows anything about air ride suspension, please tell me anything you know to help me out.

Thanks.

You should have a switch to Turn ON/OFF/RESET your air ride suspension in the trunk behind the fabric on the wall of the left hand side. If it's not there check your owners manual for this switches location and we will take it from there.

There is a common problem with old airbags getting dryrotted and blowing. That hydroplane could have been the final straw for them, if its only your rear thats not inflating and the fronts are fine then the first thing I'd do is replace the rears.

Its not too hard of a job, I've done a few working at ford.

The problem is, airbags tend to be expensive. Ran into this problem with my roommate's 1993 Towncar, and back in 2000, it was an insane amount to get new airbags. In the end we went and put standard springs in it. But you could always see if Mike can get them. :)

My dad was planning on switching the air ride for shocks and springs. Front passenger has a hole in it.

I don't know if the Thunderbird cross matches right for the Mark VIII or not, but I do know that for rears on the Towncar, we used springs from a Crown Vic. Worked great.

Im not sure either. I know that there are 2 Mark VIIIs at a junkyard close to where I live and they both have the shocks and springs. They said $80 to pull the suspension off and take it.

Well there you have it then. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. No need to worry about cross matching.

My friend that has a Mark VIII said that the replacement airbags have become fairly inexpensive. I know they used to be several hundred dollars but I am unsure of what they are now.
