Me personally, I'd go with the Astra based off looks, I've never driven either so I'd have to see how they drive to decide.

I say buy the Astra or wait till 10' for the new Focus/Fiesta. Other option, buy the Focus invest in heavy mods. If it's me today, I say Astra.

Go with the Focus SES

I drove and studied both, picked the Focus SES for economy, localized service and comfort. I typically get 34-37 mpg on the highway and 29-30 around town. The Astra didn't corner as well, was slower when accelerating and was poorly crafted. Additionally, our local Saturn dealer didn't exude a feeling that they new anything about repairing the cars when they have issues.

I personally thought the Astra's look good, but I checked one out in the mall and the curb weight was to high for the engine I thought (granted it was the small '4').

I would go for the Astra because of it's sporty nature and ties to the European market. Sales have been not what GM has expected them to be(blame poor marketing on that), so you might be able to score a good deal on one and transplant the Cobalt SS Ecotec into it later on. Plus you already get cool looking black housing headlights on all the trim levels. Nice stock wheels too.

I think the Astra would be a performer with a little bit of engine mods and some suspension work.

Yes if they have the 17in. wheels I think, but correct me if Im wrong guys. I was just looking at a 09 focus tonight I think they are pretty sweet even if they are still on the old platform but going off of my girls saturn I wouldnt even think about buying one over a focus the focus is a much better car but I do drive one so take it for what you want.
