Lightbulb Airbag Solutions?

Also New to FF...
Anyone have any solutions/ideas for my airbag problem? I was thinking about converting the passenger side into an in dash storage groove (could never find the parts). Car passes safety inspection here in Canada as is. Replacing the entire airbag kit is option b at this point...

Well, you could replace the steering wheel with an aftermarket one. Not sure what you could do with the passenger side unless you're into doing your own fiberglass work...

A fellow on ebay was selling aftermarket dashboard storage containers for 01-03 models but no 05's. Any experience installing an aftermarket steering wheel? I have never done this before.

So what's the deal with the car? Salvage title / repaired except for the air bags?

Have you tried locating used (not DEPLOYED) air bags?
Hard part of that is getting someone certified that will install / check them.

I haven't installed an aftermarket steering wheel, but being that your air bag is already deployed you removed the biggest worry. Other threads on here recommended wearing a motorcycle helmet while messing with the wheel ; )
Seriously, I don't think it's very difficult... I think there's one large nut behind the air bag.

If you're concerned you could have a garage do it, I can't imagine they would charge very much...

The car has no record of salvage on the registration, and has been mostly repaired. I'm having some issues with the position of the motor, and looking for some new motor mounts.
As for airbags the only ones I've been able to find were complete sets, including sensors, caps, bags, etc. I think replacing them is pointless, the value of the car is way down. Lucky for me since there is no way to test that an airbag will deploy properly, there is no way to prove it on a safety inspection (In Canada at Least ;)).
Anyone interested in taking on a project car? lol.

Actually, the airbags can be tested - once all the correct parts are replaced, you hook up a diagnostic tool and check the system. If it clears, you're good to go.

I know alot of states in the U.S. will ticket you or fail your inspection for taking out or not having the safty devices in the car.... But I hit a tree at 50 mph on the drivers side front corner and mine didn't go off.... I see ford has had problems before with the air bags..... $3000 damage but thank you ebay

ssn666hawkbill- Your bags didn't deploy because they didn't NEED to. Hit a solid brick wall at 10 mph, and yes, they'll go off. The computer knows when it needs to and when it doesn't, it's not that it's a Ford "problem" that they didn't deploy...
