New car no long have the ZX5

Due to an upcoming divorce I no long have the ZX5 so I decided I needed a good little car for getting back and forth to work in. I did about two weeks worth of shopping looking at other Foci, SRT4s, RX-8s ect and came across this at a car lot full of import and tuner cars

2004 Saturn Ion Redline
2.0L Ecotech Supercharged Inline 4
200hp
200ft lb of torque to the wheels

Has various factory upgrades over the regular ION similar to how the SVT had factory upgrades like suspension, exhaust ect.

Only thing I've done to it so far is add a Hurst short shifter because the PO had marred up the shift knob and a replacement shift knob was about 80 bucks and the short shifter was 150. Decided to upgrade just cause.

Sometime in the near future I want to add the GMPP Stg. 2 kit and performance or touring exhaust. Just the stage 2 kit alone boots performance almost 50 hp.

Just thought I would share my new kid. Enjoy.

I drive the hell out of it about 50/50 driving city highway and pull down about 25mpg. If I get it out on the highway long enough I can pull down 30mpg easily during a long trip.

Congratulations on the purchase! I bet you're happy with it. Ion's aren't high on my list of favorite cars, but they are pretty nice.

I almost bought one of these when i totalled my first focus. I love the redlines!

Just heard from a friend of mine recently that GM has a turbo upgrade for this. He said it's like 3k and you have to send GM your blower setup and they send you the entire turbo setup that's on the new cobalt SS. I dont know how true that is, but for 3k for a factory bolt on you really cant beat it!

Ion Redline's are pretty sweet, you can't complain about SC and 25+ mpg.

If it werent for the 3rd door and center mounted gauges, theyd be a decent ride. Anyways, personal opinions aside.... nice ride!

Yeah the center mount gauges threw me off for a few days. I'm used to them now.

It also has 4 doors not 3. The two rear doors open "suicide" style to the rear after the front doors are opened. Most insurance companies consider it a 4 door car for this reason which usually equals better insurance.

I've been scanning the GMPP catalog for a while now and have not noticed this kit at all. They do sell factory stage1, 2 and 3 kits. The Stg. 3 kit is an off road only kit and pumps out something like 280 some odd HP when it's on it's 100 octane setting. It's also got an algorithm for a 50hp shot of nitrous with the new ECU.

Now the newest Cobalt SS that just came out is Turbo charged and it makes 260hp out of the same engine that the SC version only made 205 out of. I guess they could be offering some kind of exchange program there maybe.

I wouldn't even have considered a regular ION the Redline model just called my name.

I want to get some wheel time in the Saturn Sky Redline. 2 seat roadster type car with the Turbocharged 2.0L ECOTECH makin 260HP and it's RWD.
