Door trim delete?

I was cruising around yesterday and I rolled up next to a highly modified fofo zx3. It looked as if the door trim pieces were removed and it looked sweet having additional lines added to the door.

My question is, how are those attached to the door? Is it just high strength double sided tape? Or are there a few screws or such that attach it to the door? I was thinking about giving it a try but was wondering if anyone has done this before.

Thanks for the help focusfanatics!

If you are talking about the side (protection) moldings that prevent door dings, yes - they are just applied with automotive-grade double-sided tape. (some moldings on other vehicles use clips, though)

If you want to take them off, you can, but you'll have to spend time using some goo-gome to get off the residue. (then you'll have to put some wax on).

When I removed Klod's side moldings on his totaled 2000 zx3, it was held on by glue but had holes cut in the door for possibly clips. I guess its kinda a crapshoot. I have heard that some dont have the holes.

i've seen people say they're taped, and i've seen people say they're attached with some sort of clips or screws or something more permanent at least. it may be that the later years were just double-sided tape. idk.

but the thing to think about is the age of your car. you've got an 05...even so, i've got an 05 and debadged after 2 years and even after some wax, you can still make out the lettering if you look at it right. which is from most angles, lol. and you're talking about something alot bigger than a few letters, so just a thought.

though...i think it looks great without them, mine didn't come with the side moldings and i'm glad it didn't. think it looks cleaner, and there is a nice body line there.

^^ You should use a rubbing compound or a polish and then a scratch remover to even it out. Thats what I did on my 01 and you cant make out any difference. Wax wont help blend in paint differences, just makes it all shiny.

Take the interior door panel off and look inside. You'll be able to see if you have clips.

Some do have alignment tabs and holes, some are just double sided tape without holes, and some didn't get the side moldings from the factory.

Like Wagamos said, it's a crapshoot
