New Car Versus my Focus

I bought this 2001 SE sedan 7 years ago new. Never had a problem outside of normal maintenance. I've been bugging for a new car lately and with the interest rates and deals going on I have been looking at the Mazda RX8 (to match my wife's white Mazda). Finally got the nod from the wife and I did the unthinkable! I chickened out! I backed out. The cheapness in me kicked in or so I thought then I realized that what I really wanted to do was see how many miles I can get on my Focus. It's been trouble free with no problems out side of normal maintenance, gets 30 MPG, looks pretty decent still (though my 11 year old daugter inststs in driving in my wifes car , is paid for, goes damn near anywhere I want it too, etc, etc.

I work with a guy named Larry that bought the same model as mine, he put 260,000 miles on it before the car got totalled by a drunk driver. Based on my new self inposed 300,000 miles challange I have another 5 years with this car to reach the challange of getting to the 300,000 mile mark.......and so it begins.....

Rotary engines are always going to get bad reviews. The pollution is higher than other types of engines because of how things work. I'm sure the fuel economy will not be as bad as what's listed on the EPA sticker. My old EFI RX-7 got 30 mpg on the old fuel, and it had a fuel injection problem that caused it to use more fuel than it should. We have a member on here who drives an RX-8- Carerra I think. I can't remember his name correctly.

Best of luck, I want one too, but right now I'm sticking with what I have. If anything I'd trade the van in on a Mazda5, but I like the cargo capacity of the Aerostar.

and good luck on your journey :) the Foci should pull that no prob to bad mines not in the running for mileage its got a popped motor (which Im buying a motor off somone on the forums) and wagon #1 only has 151,000 and both my wagons are 01's

From what I heard the integrity of the engine was not promissing, there are other sports cars somewhat and not like the RX-8 that has good integrity.
