2009 Focus SES Reliability Pole

Quite unscientific I know...but after going through some nightmares with my 01 Focus, I'd like to see what people feel..gut-wise as to the reliability (LONG TERM) for these cars.

Just an FYI...every single window regulator on my Focus has broken..the rear driver side one is on it's second leg...I can remove the body panels on my car quicker than I can make an omelette.

im gonna say less reliable, but every car is different and depends on the owner. i've seen some last a long time with no problems and seen some honda's and toyota's beaten to death within 4 years. My 01 focus was flawless with 60,000 miles before it was totaled and never had a problem, now my 03 svt has 82,500 miles and has more problems than im used to, but i wasnt the original owner so i dont know how it was taken car of before i got ahold of it with 64,000 miles. thats what i think

mind u i only have 8000 on my 08 but it has been thru 1 drag day at FocusFest then 3-4 auto-x comps as well and it is still running just fine from what i know once the duratec came the car's got better and from what i can see (being a automotive tech myself) these newer focus are better put together than some of the civic's i saw when i worked at a honda dealer

I would say less as well, But that doesn't mean it is absolute crap. At least the Focus can hold up to things other cars can't do.

No offense, but the "poll" as it should be titled is entirely worthless. Anecdotes hold virtually no meaning in a statistical sense, and certainly no credibility.

Comments like "my one Focus had X problems" or "My buddy's Honda lasted 500,000 miles" literally mean nothing. Because just as those two comments can be made, the next guy can say "my Focus had 0 problems" and "My buddy's F150 has 1,000,000 miles."

See what I mean? From a statistical standpoint the MINIMUM sample size that is generally given any consideration is 40, BUT with autos it is much, much larger.

I agree with Lumadar, but sometimes word of mouth can be the best advertisement.
My 08 is a little more than a year old with 43,000 on it with minor issues, but no problems. I had both headlights replaced at about 18,000 (one was damaged and still assembled, the other developed stress cracks in the front lens).
I do have to admit though, the Japanese cars are pretty reliable in the first 5 years, after that depends on how well they were maintained.
In the 80s and early 90s I drove a tow truck and scrapped cars for that towing company, the majority of the cars that I scrapped were Japanese cars that were 5 - 7 years old. By majority, I mean out of all cars (domestic and import), 55 cars out of every 100 scrapped were Japanese (5 - 7 years old). The least amount of cars scrapped in the same time frame - Fords.
I know this is 18 to 30 years ago and quality has gone up and down with all manufactures, but I will still only buy a Ford car or truck (MHO).

Believe it or not Ford's quality has surpassed due to Ford putting more thought in their cars and Honda's quality actually DROPPING over the years in comparable cars.

Well.. its ONLY 2009 and you're talking about the reliability of a 09.. Unless we can see into the future.. that can't be answered..

But anyways I have had mine for just about 6 months now and have 11320 something miles on my 09 and so far so good.

I have an '09 SES and it is built quite well. The only thing I had done to it was bleeding the clutch, and that is probably because it sat for so long on the dealer's lot. As far as comparing the two, I'd say buy whatever you want...it's all personal preference these days.
