Essentially I love driving, photography and urban as well as rural landscapes. Im a 3rd year Geography student in Urban Design and Planning and I think this trip will benefit my BA because i get to discover what i learned on paper all these years as well as i will get to discover the beautiful USA!

The trip is about 6500 kms alltogether and im planning 25 days in august, with more days at the end, summer of 2009.

I made maps for the daily routes and such but im still not sure wether to camp or just motel it. Also i will have to get some kind of road assistance/insurance being from Canada. Anyone have some general answers for these open things??

Any and every feedback will be much appreciated!!!
thanks for your time

cheers!

I did a similar month-long trip a few years ago.....there are plenty of things to consider. If you won't have any rear-seat passengers, I recommend removing the bottom seat section.....put a thin pad down there. This gives you a bunch of space.

Camping......? Can be dangerous, and requires you to carry more stuff. I'd recommend motels, with maybe just sleeping in the car every other day or so. You can put up with that easily, but maybe not with a female.

Mexico.....? Don't cross the border. There are countless horror stories about short trips into Mexico. There's plenty to see in the USA.

Carry spare parts.. like fuel filters, a belt, spark plugs. You might not be able to fix these sorts of things on the road, but you'll have the parts for a repair place to use.

Start off with good tires. I drove from St Louis to LA in the summer. My tires were 1/2 worn at the start.....by the time I got to LA, they were shot, and I had to buy new tires. Consider carrying a second spare.

Making a big trip like that with a female passenger, can be hazardous to your health......

@ Egz: yes i will do the trip this summer, summer of 2009

@bluefront: thanks for you advise, didn't think of bringing spare parts but that is indeed a really good idea! I will need tires in the spring so ill have new tires before the start of the trip. My car only has 32,000 kms on the clock and come summer 2009 i think i won't have much more than 35,000. I'll take it to Ford for a major service (#4) just before leaving..
Also i won't be travelling with a female haha.
