Well just keep in mind that even if its legal, police will view your car as a target if its loud, and with straight pipes it will definatly grab attention, whether you care is up to you.

BTW I would suggest getting an aftermarket exhaust made for the focus, if you didnt know, which is maybe why you want to go with straight pipes for a street legal 4 cyl car, straight pipes on a 4 cyl doesnt give you good sound like it does on a V8 IMO, its loud and raspy, but if thats what you like go for it, everyone has thier own opinion.

mmmm i had straight pipe on the my ST from flex pipe back...if i didnt have nagging parents and a girlfriend that found it annoying, i prolly would have kept it, it was obviously extremely loud and it was surprisingly deep, it had its raspy times but that was way up there in the RPM...and here in the mass the cops rnt the friendliest and i never got shit for it, i had it straight pipe for prolly 4 months, the best was when i had to merge from a stop onto a 65mph 2 lane highway when i had a statey behind me , i didnt gun it obviously but i made a few shifts at 5k and i didnt see any blue lights....

As far as legal...i have a buddy in the inspection bay so i luckily can get away with that, but to be honest i dont think i woulda passed if i didnt

Your best option before performing any modification to any safety or emmisions parts of your vehicle is to check all local, state, and federal laws that apply to you.

I've cruised with Mtadd before when he was running the straight pipe, and it was very loud, but not as raspy or terrible sounding as you might think.
