So you want to buy an Exhaust System?

Ok, this thread is to help the ИӨӦВЇӚŞ, to help them with buying an exhaust. Please ask only exhaust related questions here, or if you would like, you could share ideas for other forum members on your exhaust set-up to give them ideas.

*Here are the cat-backs for the ford focus
1.Borla Cat-back 2.5" (Stainless Steel)
2.MBRP Cat-back 2.25" or 2.5" for zx3 and svt (Stainless Steel)
3.Magnaflow Cat-back 2.25" (Stainless Steel)
4.Bosal Cat-back 2.25" (Stainless Steel)
5.Focus sport Cat-back 2.25" (ceramic coating + stealth options)
6.Thermal R&D Cat-back 2.25" (Stainless Steel)
7.Pacesetter Cat-back 2.25" (aluminized)
8.Flow master Cat-back 2" (aluminized)
9.HKS Cat-back 2.25" (Stainless Steel)
10.Tru-bendz Cat-back 2.25",2.5" or 3.0" (They make there own tubing, and take mufflers from other companies) (Offers all)

*Choosing the right size
Cat-backs come in 2.25" 2.5" and 3". It is critical to think ahead before you buy a cat-back, do you wanna get a turbo, supercharer, go with nitrous, all motor, or have minimal mods. Thefore follow these rules of size before you buy a exhaust. Many people love the borla and Magnaflow, but you don't have to be like everyone.

A 2.25" cat-back is good for minimal mods
A 2.5" cat-back is good for All motor or supercharged
A 3.0" is good for turbocharged

*Street headers (short tube headers)
1.Ford Racing header (Stainless Steel)
2.Pacesetter header (Armor coated or Non armor coated)
3.JBA header (Stainless Steel)
4.MAC header (Ceramic Coated)
5.Edelbrock header (Ceramic)
6.Focus Sport header (Ceramic)
7.Focus-Central header (Ceramic)

*Race Headers (long tube headers)
1.Focus-Central (Ceramic Coated) "They made a new header, redesigned with a true collector"
2.Focus Sport (Ceramic)
3.Edelbrock (Ceramic
4.Kamikaze (black coating, nickel polish chrome or ceramic)
5.OBX (Coated mill steel)

*Cat pipes
1.Focus-Central high flow cat (Stainless Steel)
2.Random Technology (Stainless Steel)

*Off-road pipes
1.Focus-Central off-road pipe (Coated Steel)

*Flex Pipes
1.Focus-Central flex pipe (Stainless Steel) 2.25"
2.Focus Sport flex pipe (Aluminized Steel) 225"
3.Bosal flex pipe (Stainless Steel) 2.25"
4.Trubendz flex pipe (Offers all) These come in 2.25" 2.5" and 3.0"

Difrerence between Street headers (AKA shorty headers) and Race headers (AKA long tube headers)
-Shorty headers are designed like wierd looking "M", they dont give you much air flow but are street legal.
-Race Headers come in 4-1 or 4-2-1 design, they are longer then shorty headers, hence the name long tube, since they are longer, they offer more air flow, which means more h.p. These are not legal, because you remove the cat.

The Focus consists of a HEADER, CAT PIPE, FLEX PIPE, and CAT-BACK

Note, Race headers and offroad pipes are not street legal due to that you remove the cat.

Sites where you can get these

-Hope this helps alot of people though

I was going to say that list seemed lacking in the Duratec department, then I saw the date on the original post.

this digging up a dead thread, but, the HKS info is wrong. well, it may have been 2.25 in 2003, but in 2006, its 60mm, whish is closer to a 2.4 than a 2.25. just thought i woulod add that.
