You can do any kind of swap you want, provided you have the tools, the parts, and the know-how. If you're asking whether what you'll have will be street-legal, you need to check your D.M.V. laws thoroughly. It may be hard to find a N.C. DMV expert here. We have a few here who have done swaps, but not too many for the Focus - not usually done.

There is alway's some backwoods garage that will inspect it...at least for now, heard they were gonna change things here in October. Also depends on what County you live in. Where i'm at the same guy's inspected my car that took the Cat off....LOL

It is possible in NC. The way you can do it is have it done through DMV as a custom or "kit" car. If you modify a car enough, such as changing it to rear wheel drive, you can have it changed to a different vin. I dont know all the in's and out's of this, you should ask your local DMV officer. We have built cars here at work before like this and the officer will come out and inspect it for everything that it's supposed to have and issue a new vin number and title. Tom may even know how this is done. We had one to pass even without wipers recently that wasent supposed to pass without them, but he let it go. It was this car:

What ever it is it is done the same way when you build a rail...I think it is still listed as what ever year the base car was.
