Tailgating/Road Rage

Hey, just wondering if any of you guys have any knowledge/experience with tailgating and road rage laws and such. I was driving home today and I guess this guy thought I cut him off, because he started driving right up my ass, and had his brights on and all that shit, and I'm pretty sure at 1 point he actually tapped me, but it's too dark out for me to check for any damage. I managed to get his plate numbers through my rearview at 1 point, so is there anything I can do? Just really gets me mad because cars are a privledge for responsible adults, and people who are that childish, stupid and reckless shouldn't be driving.

yeah I called the police on a reckless driver a while ago. Just drive responsibly and get thier plates, because they can/will be tracked down by the police if they hit you, in fact you should call them now if you havnt already. As a word of warning if they are following you don't go to your home, drive to the police station. I have be forced to contemplate this many times unfortunatly.

Around here the police will typically give you a call or come find you if someone called the police and complained about your driving, even if they have no proof(kind of to tell you that they have an eye on you).

Here's what I do when someone tailgates me really bad:
*DISCLAMER!*
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE!
I AM SIMPLY EXPLAINING HOW I DEAL WITH REALLY BAD TAILGATERS!

I drop it a couple gears, then hit the brakes hard and then immediately floor it and fly ahead before they can hit me. It ALWAYS scares 'em enough so they hang back a ways.

Sorry to jack the thread and rant but i had a little incident of road rage myself the other day, i was driving with my mom and this guy pulled out of a parking lot as i was driving by and nearly smashed my passenger side in where my mom was seated there was no blind spots where he could'nt see me coming or anything like that he was just not paying attention, so he turned onto the one lane road behind me as we approached the upcoming light (which was green) i stopped at the light and just sat there because i was so furious this idiot wasn't paying attention to anything but his cell phone! I waited til the light turned yellow and i went and left that F'er at the red light blaring his horn :)

I try and keep a cool head and a steady pace. If traffic is slowing down I get on the brakes gradually since the SVT will stop quicker than most. My goal when I am driving is to get from point A to point B as efficiently as possible... stopping to argue and exchange insurance bs after an accident is the opposite of efficient travel. I let him pass and then follow... match his speed and let him beat the bushes for the cops.

All that reasonable talk from a guy who just got a speeding ticket! damn!

But no serious seriously. Driving a Drink is not safe to do, don't drive and drink. Drink Drink no drive.

But anyways. You should call the Highway Patrol if it was on a highway, tell them he was driving erratically and almost ran you off the road. They will investigate.

I've personally followed drunken drivers who've had road rage while talking to the police. They gave me permission to speed to stay up with him was great... until the cop got behind me and I had to get out of the way :-(

As far as tail gating goes, since I am here in NY too and we NY drivers are the worst, I tend to ride my brakes a bit when they do that. I do plan on putting a push button on my dash to turn on my brake lights so that I don't use my brakes up lol.
