Mk is short for Mark, which means generation.

Mk1 tends to refer to the 1999-2004 model years, then the design split between Europe and US. While the 2005-2007 is slightly different, its still mostly the same, so we like to call it Mk1.5, while in Europe its on a new platform, so its called a Mk2.

and what will really bake your noodle later...

The Europeans consider their 2002-2004 "facelift" Focus to be an MK1.5 as well.

But going back to the original question, Yes, the MK1 Focus is what we have had here from 2000 - till roughly the present, as Egz has already said.

Although that's technically correct (mechanically, at least), I refuse to accept the US 2005-2007s as MK1s - because I hate 'em. Stealing a page from the Europeans, I'm calling them mk.5s from now on (that's right - "mark POINT five"), because they were a step backward, IMO. (No offense intended to those of you who own 2005-2007s - hopefully you're not crybabies like some of the '08 coupe owners - because people like syz and dipindods are sporting very HOT mk.5s, showing that there is potential in 'em, and many of you probably hate MY car, too...)

Meanwhile, slipster, nice schnozz on your baby - I'm hoping to do a very similar nose job on mine very soon (already have the ST170 grille, just need the lights), albeit in CD Silver.

OK, I'm REALLY offended by your remarks! I'm giving you a negative rep and reporting your post to the mods!!! You'll be suspended for a month!!!!!

JUST KIDDING!!! I just needed a post to hit 1500!!!

WOOOHOOO!!! FINALLY! I'd like to thank everyone here at FF. I couldn't have done it without you!

Shep: I can deal with your gripes about the '05-'07's. I take them with a grain of salt, because anyone who buys a silver car, really has no room to talk about other people's cars.....

Well, anyone who buys a BLACK car obviously has nothing better to do and can therefore take the time to WASH the damn thing every other day...

That and CD Silver was the nicest used SVT I could find at the time I was ready to buy (otherwise, maybe I'd have held out for Sonic Blue or Infra Red). Plus, it's the only one (ok, besides black) that looks good with a color-matched dash.
