i think you should get your first one done relatively sooner than regular intervals.

Yea, the factory stuff, although not bad is a synthetic blend mix, who knows whats in it, or how long its been sitting in the engine. I'm not positive but i think the stuff they put in from the factory is the breakin oil, your car should already been broken in. Id probably do one soon, wouldn't hurt. But I would recommend synthetic oil, no the focus does not need synthetic, but i know on my engine and most it makes them run better. Mobil 1 is your best friend and places have sales all the time. Oh and do the change yourself, its easy, and you'll make sure its done right.

i dunno about what they put in it, but your first oil change should be around the 3k mark... then after that you would be alright going longer... i mean i change every 7 or so myself

I would in no way wait that long for an oil change. I like having the fresh oil.

I've seen the inside of a motor from someone who did not do regular oil changes. The inside was sludgey in places and looked terrible, honestly. I personally try to do mine every 4k and I have gone as long as 5k. I think it depends on the way you drive also, if you go to the track and are using the motor hard in the higher RPM range then you should probably check and change the oil more often. There are a ton of threads debating this stuff.

I'll stick with 5k, though the manual for my car does suggest that I could go 10k.
