Timing Belt Change = Bad Vibrations?

Hey guys, don't post too often but visit the forums frequently. Thank you for the help.

My '01 Zx3 had some bad vibrations at 100k, same as many other older foci-- went away with the clutch in so certainly a motor mount issue that I haven't had time to address.

However, since I just hit 100k I wanted to get my timing belt changed asap and took it in to a local mechanic. Get my car back today and the idle is even worse, and the car shakes with almost a tone-like "resonancy" through the entire rpm range. Especially on the passenger side !!

Could an inexperienced mechanic have installed the timing belt off a tooth so that it runs, but awfully? Or could the simple process of taking off the passenger mount and remounting it cause an almost failed mount to give out?

I love my focus but this is maddening to get my car back in worse shape. Any suggestions on how to approach the mechanic tommorow? Thanks again for your help!

It's very possible that the timing is a bit off.....but personally I would have thought that poor ignition timing would have more "negative" effects than just a bit of resonance....

That's all the info I sadly have though.... I still need to get mine changed.

Did the mechanic change the Harmonic Balancer?
