Lose the Escape for a . . .

We've been throwing out the idea of selling the '01 Escape and trying to pick up a more economical family hauler. It has a tad under 70k on it, and we would like to pick up a wagon (or something bigger in general) that has about the same mileage or lower. I hope to see about 9k for the Escape, and I'd hope to keep the price below that, if I can keep it way below that and pay off some debt the better. I've been thinking-

-1.8T Jetta/Passat
-Late Late 90's Volvo (<3 turbo bricks) - uber high mileage
-Focus Wagon (they are pricey now-a-days)
-Maybe I can get her in to a ZX5 SVT for sale on these boards. But I can't aut0-x it

What else am I not thinking of? I need more idea's and I am open to almost anything, wifey maybe not- Trying to cut monthly costs, and I could always add a roof-top cargo rack if needed, so sedans aren't out. I'm just a wagon/hatch lovah lover. I would love to get a ZXW, but it will be a hard sell on her and they seem to be a tough find.

To convince her about the ZX5, just show her how much room is in the back of one with the rear seat folded down.

She knows there is room with the seats down, we slept there many a times at a rest stop roadtripping in the ZX3- She knows theres enough room to pro-create there, which brought the problem. If we have 2 child seats in the back, how will we be able to fold those seats down?

What powerplant is your 01 escape, is it the 2.0 zetec or the 3.0 duratec?

My 08 Escape averages about 22 city 27 highway on good days where it's not triple digit temperatures and thin air, only mod is a drop-in K&N.

^^ Good choice. I'd also say look for a Mazda5, those are basically a Focus wagon with sliding rear doors. It also comes with Mazda's D23 with VCT. Those would be pricey nowadays though, I think the average model was around $25k or so.

Hey... my wife is pregnant too!! Congrats!!
