2009, GM vs. FoMoCo

I have always had an affinity towards Ford and the only cars from GM that I really ever had any respect for were the Vette and the Camaro, as well as their trucks. But as of late, it seems that GM has shoved Ford in the toilet, closed the lid, and flushed it. I have not seen anything from Ford that I would consider impressive at all. I can't stand the new Focus, the mustang GT is nice, but the styling is mundane and I'm already tired of it since I see 50 of them everywhere I drive, the Fusion is alright, but I would never buy one in place of a car like the new Malibu which is both nicer, better made and faster. Fords trucks are obviously nice since they are the number one selling truck in the country, but they leave a lot to be desired, and in a 2007 comparison test by car and driver, the ford came in fifth place, while the chevy came in first. They put all their eggs into the Ford GT and it got great reviews for performance, but horrible reviews for reliability, and they only made them for what, two years? The corvette Z06 is faster..and it's not even necessarily made to be a "super car" like the GT was with its MR layout and body resembling super cars like the enzo. I have been duelly unimpressed by their motors as well. The only motor posting any respectable numbers is the 4.6 liter V8 mustang GT motor at about 300 horsepower, but the new Malibu motor is a 3.6 V6 with about 260 HP. What's fords best V6 motor? How about the bloated 4.0 V6 mustang at 211 horsepower? That's pathetic on so many levels. Lets see, what else..oh yeah, don't even mention Cadillac and Pontiac. The CTS is better than anything from lincoln or mercury. The Pontiac G6 beats the hell out of the crappy Fusion. I don't have any experience with GM service centers, but I do with Ford, and I have been unimpressed to say the least. I guess the only thing that Ford has going for them is their 30% ownership of Mazda, but obviously they haven't dug their dirty crusty hands into Mazdas operations very much because Mazda is better than its ever been. ugh.

So, whilst this thread may seem to be a little heavy on the ford bashing, it is evident that Ford is doing something VERY wrong iin every aspect of operations. What else sucks is that Ford keeps firing people from their productions, when the people who should be fired are everybody in upper management including their CEO. It would be nice if the shareholders would get in there and do some serious cleansing. That's all I have to say.

the new guy mullay, seems like he is trying to turn the name back around into something good, but i 100 precent agree with ya, gm has some good stuff, and gives the customers what they want, fun boost 4 cylinders, the vette, and they are making good power and pretty good fuel economy as well, whereas ford doesnt know wtf is going on anymore, but i doubt ford will move up this year in sales, most likely go down, but by 2010 2011 i think for will bounce back up after some new cars and designs come out

Give Ford a year or two and they'll be back in competition...the new plan is to adopt a unified global platform, so we'll be getting the new Fiesta next year (it'll be far better than the Aveo and pretty much any other b-segment car on the domestic market) and there are rumors we'll get the MkIII Focus here in 2010/11. Plus if Ford goes all the way with a global platform, the Fusion will eventually be built on the current or a future Mondeo platform. There are also rumors that the next-gen Mustang will be built on the superior Falcon (from Australia) platform, which has historically competed well against the Holden Commodore (which is the platform the Pontiac G8 and new Camaro is being built on.) Although I wouldn't be surprised if the collective Mustang fanbase forces Ford to cancel that plan like they did with the Probe back in the late 80s by throwing a fit when they don't get what they want, namely, an overpriced car built on technology from the 1970s...

Ford should just dump everything except the Mustang and change the rest to the global platforms. In the rest of the world ford is actually somewhat respectable, why not spread the love to its homeland!!!!

and I agree the CX-7 is the nicest SUV i've ever seen. I love the shape of it, how the fenders sort of resemble the rest of their lineup including the RX-8, and the motor is awesome. I bet you could make a CX-7 fast with little modification.

It takes a while to change things in the manufacturing world. They still have to make money during the change. GM started changing around factories long before Ford did. Chrysler made all their major changes in the early to late 80's in order to save the company. I think Ford's failures in the recent past are moving them into changes that will benefit the company and customers in the next few years.

The Mustang won't hold Ford back forever, but right now it's probably making them money right now. So like the K-car, it has it's place in saving the company.

10000% agree. i couldnt have said it any better. ive always been an avid ford fan but as of late, ive been moving more and more toward the dark side. ford gives the rest of the world all the goods while we get stuck with the bottom of the line crap. not to mention all the new stuff is hidious. they ditched the hatch focus. BAD idea, being they only sold hundreds of thousands of them. they cancelled the 500 after only a few years. the GT so called SUPERCAR is far inferior of the z06. not to mention it gets half the gas mileage, a blower, and 32 valve DOHC. the vette only sports large displacement. its roots are from old school pushrod technology, its naturally aspirated, and its more reliable. the superduty is the only thing that isnt completely shot to hell ugly. although it did take a bad dive from the last body style which im my book was the best looking ford truck ever produced period. the new f150 isnt all that great either. just google the 09 f150 and you will see what i mean. i just dont know what ford is going to do. i hope they pull their heads out of their asses and start back making good quality cars and trucks that actually look nice and make good numbers.

Well, opinions are like aholes, everyone has one but they all stink. The 3.5 V6 in the Edge/MKZ/MKX has 263hp. I think a google search would reveal a lot more than you think. Not to mention the upcoming turbo designs that are designated to be used almost across the board. As far as the GT and Z06 it all comes down to opinion and also your reason for buying the car. The GT was definitely built to appease the GT40 fans and that's why is was so limited and only built for a short time. I'm rather anxious to see how the Super Snake stacks up against the Z06.
