Same here.

A lot of people on here sign up just to learn how to work on their cars. Some of us actually work at ford and other garages. I understand why a lot of people will choose to take their cars to shops for the large engine or tranny jobs but as for regular work I think you could point to any one person on the board and they will be able to say they had some grease on their hands.

Depends on the work to be done, I do my own oil/fluid changes, brake jobs, belt changes, tranny adjustments etc.
Installed my CAI and bolted on my exhaust kit myself and then took it to get welded.
When the weather warms up I'll probably try to install my camshafts myself and when I can afford a header and suspension I'll do that too.

If it's something like internal tranny or engine problems I'll probably take it to a shop

I do what I have to do when I have to do it- and generally not before. I haven't taken my car in even when it was under warranty- except when the slave cylinder stuck, and I needed to have it towed anyway. I do everything without a lift- if I'm lucky, I can work on concrete. Most of the time it's gravel, dirt, or grass with cardboard on it.

I can't do alignment on my own though- even though I have tried those DIY alignment tools, but I never got one to work good enough.

Wow. I really sounded like a tirdmuffin. I'm gonna leave that on there for humility's sake.

most stuff, i do myself...but i dont have much fancy equipment like lift/welding equipment/torch, etc....so i either take it to my uncles garage and work on it there...or take it to a shop if necessary

I use to, but I'm too old and broken down to do it anymore. If I had a garage and a lift, I'd probably still do things myself.

I usually do most of the work myself, but the little stuff i get lazy and take it to my mechanic, its just easier that way. I mean ive done a lot to it myself, heck i put my own supercharger on, but when it comes down to other stuff. I let the competent technicians do my work

It pains me to take the car in for an alignment.

Never again will someone else touch my car except for alignment and tire mounting (with the wheels loose off the car of course) and such.

No i dont know how to do it all. but I learn like a 2 year old. very, very fast.
