Big test for my Focus today.....

.....and she past with flying colors!!!

I had to go to Dillon, CO today Dillon is at the bottom of the western approach to the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels on I-70, the Continental Divide-11,128ft in elevation. There was a big winter stom that bore down on this area this morning. Chain laws were in effect for all commercial vehicles. As I climbed in elevation, the conditions got worse. Then I came to the eastern approach, three miles of 6% and 7% grades. When I pushed a little harder on the accelerator, the traction control kicked in and my Focus tore up those grades without any problems. Coming down the west side of the tunnels, there is eight miles of a 7% grade. My Focus never slipped once. I have Bridgestone Potenza G009 all-season tires on my Focus, and I was handling the adverse conditions better than some 4WD vehicles on the road.

And if I haven't said it lately.....I LOVE MY FOCUS!!!!!

From what I have read you would be absolutely amazed what dedicated snow tires would do for these little cars, even if you already have all-seasons.

snow tires make a big difference, but so does a good driver, i have bald all season on my car, looked today and the passenger is pretty much gone, other side is nearing it lol, and i still go up and down our hills with no issues, most hills are like a 30degree angled or higher

Oh my God, you wouldn't BELIEVE what an amazing difference it makes!!! I was keeping up with a full-sized pickup flying down a snow-covered road!!! And with traction control and ABS it's like...wow, so much fun and so nice. Hit the gas and it goes, no questions asked. Still have to be careful around turns but man, starting and stopping are cake.

so if the tires are bald, does that mean they act like slicks for a short time?

Just to throw it out there I have 15" stock wheels with blizzard tires only 200 miles on them

15" wheels won't fit on my SVT so they are no good to me since I sold my ZX3
