Focus trade in question

My 2005 ZX3 Se has a flawless custom painted hood that is painted black down the middle like Steeda does on some of their Focus vehicles. The only custom parts on the car are KYB adjustable struts/1.5 drop springs, FocusCentral Cai and MBRP stainless exhaust. My mileage is 33,000 and was just curious what some of you with similar work done to their cars have experienced when trading in. Is it not even worth going to the new car lot with my car since it is not stock? I was mainly wondering if at a new car lot have some of you still had them offer you trade in value or do they bump down the condition because it is not stock?

The closer you can bring it back to stock, the better. Your car may be in flawless condition, but most dealers won't want to try to sell a modified car, and will heavily discount you.

Try aiming for a private sale first. You can usually get a little more that way. But its a buyers market, so be prepared to be low balled.

^^ +2

A dealer will NEVER factor in the modifications to a trade in price. Wholesale or blue book only.

Well they offered me exactly what the wholesale price is. I may go ahead and save myself the trouble of the tire kickers and cost of advertising online and settle for the 1500.00 less than the trade in price. Thanks for the advice guys.

It might be worth the hassle just to do that. It's only 1500 less. You might be able to negotiate that or the price of the new car a little. Are you planning on staying with the Focus, or moving on?

I'm not sure why they only offer the wholesale value. It gets pretty annoying as this happened on my last Focus too. My car only has an average of 10,000 miles per year and is in very good condition with no scratches or dents along with flawless like new interior. I am actually probably just going to tell them today I will pass on the new car after thinking about their offer overnight.

BTW, my wheels are now stock on the car and the throttle body was removed as well.
