New Focus rival sighted: Hyundai i30/Elantra touring

I saw this at the car show the other day:

The highly rated European developed Hyundai i30 wagon will be coming to NA as the Elantra Touring. It will only have the 2.0L engine. This car has been rated as highly as the Focus and Golf in Europe, and better than the Astra. It should be good & cheap!

They should ditch the 2.0 and toss in the 2.4. Little stlying to talk about.

It seems like Ford is the only one not trying to get a hatch over here. Interesting.

I'm just still annoyed by the lack of a small US bound diesel other than the VW. I really need to investigate the EPA regulations that are supposedly keeping the engines from our shores. I still can't see how a small diesel would produce more pollution than a small gasoline motor.

Check out this article. It might shed some light on the Diesel engine vs. Gasoline engine. There's a link at the bottom for the EPA. It's pretty interesting. It seems like it was taken from the EPA, but who knows. Either way it's still interesting. I'd like to see some real comparisons on the car listed above.

Saw something on here before about diesel engines, seems they burn fuel at cooler temperatures. While the Cat converter needs to be hot to take effect. The hotter it is, the better it will perform.

Not a fan of the 5 door. But the 3 door looks pretty good. Hyundia is really stepping it up lately with all their cars. Yup, no hatch cause Ford felt the need to follow honda's civic....cause you know they'd actually stand a chance of getting close to its sales. Lame if you ask me. If i wanted a sport compact hatch, i'd be looking at the mazda 3, and the new Saturn/Opel Astra..which is hot. And this when it comes out.
