Radar Detectors?

Do you guys have one, what kind/model is it, do you like it, and most importantly how much did you pay for it?

I was gonna buy a Valentine 1 but I have $130 worth of store credit to Best Buy, and a radar detector is really all i would like from Best Buy. I talked to the guy the other day, and he was telling me that the Escort Passport 8 Band Radar/Laser Detector was the one that he uses and its great. Its 350 bucks, and it looks like a good unit.

So any suggestions from you guys?

I have the wireless Escort S2. The only time I really use it is when I am on the freeway. I bought it solely becasue it was wireless. You have to remember that cops usually don't drive around with their radar on though. I do like it though

I have the passport, best investment I ever made for frequent highway commuting and around-town driving. I cant tell you how many times its paid for itself. It's probably kept me out of jail a few occasions as well. I have not been pulled over once, ever. Get the passport with the red instead of the blue display, its cheaper.

That really depends on the county. Where I live, the radar is on 100% of the time in every single patrol car.

Valentine used to work for Passport and Escort. Passport/Escort use to be different now they merged and make the same models but kept seperate names. Valentine left and started his own company a few or several years ago. His radar's are great but not for the money you spend on them. Also he has a feature that no one else has, and thats arrows that directs your attention to the direction the signal is coming from. Personally thats a big waste of my money as I usually am on Interstates speeding, not In town speeding. So the patrol car is either right in front of me, or behind me...its easy to spot. Whats matters to me is range, reliability, and false alarms to be ziltch! Escort, and passport, and Beltronics are TOP NOTCH! I have had all three and the bang for your buck is Beltronics

I'm thinking a Beltronic vector 955
(It has Advanced AutoScan Processing...a must)

Ooo yea just cause you have radar does not mean you'll never get caught!!! Its rare so far that I've seen that they are 100% on all the time. Around here they like to sit around corners or curves and wait for you to fly around tat corner and then they turn it on at the last minute....those dogs!

I've been driving the way I drive for many years. I don't rely on the radar detector at all, but at times it'l give you that nice warning when you wern't expecting it.

When I was datalogging my car (procharged version) doing WOT pulls down a main section of road here I was JUST about to pull my final 3rd gear rip when the passport starting blingingg. I lifted and cruised along as normal and wouldn't you know, cruised right by him behind a big ass sign. That would have easily been jailtime here.

yea...I feel naked whenever Im in a car without one. I hate not knowing if one is around or where they are.

They do pay for themselves I completely agree.

thanks guys...all great advice here keep it comin! I like the beltronics and the valentine, but i want to buy one of the ones from Best buy as i have close to 130 bucks of store credit, so it wont hurt me as much in the pocket.

when i was talking to the uy in the store i forgot to ask him what the diference between the 8500 red and the 8500 blue were becuase the blue was like 30 or 40 bucks more expensive
